Please note: Charging of electric vehicles is not allowed.. As soon as you arrive the tranquillity of your surroundings will ooze into you. The countryside views, mature trees, fields and river across the valley will lure you in so you won’t ever want to leave.
The two en-suite bedrooms are on the ground floor and with a bath in one and shower cubicle in the other, the choice is yours. A few steps take you to the lower ground floor where you’ll find the open plan living, kitchen and dining area. This is a great space for your family to gather whether it’s watching a film on the Blu-ray player whilst snuggling around the wood burner or all chipping in to prepare dinner.
If you can grab a few minutes on your own, don’t forget that book you’ve been trying to finish and sit outside on the large patio area in contemplation of your surroundings or wait for sun to set and do some star gazing which the Exmoor area is famous for.
Blackbird Cottage is the ideal choice for your family holiday. In rural surroundings you’ll feel miles away from the Devon tourist hot spots but it’s within easy access to the A377. All Devon has to offer is at your fingertips whether it’s a day at the beach at Westward Ho! or strolling around the historic port of Bideford.

We stayed at Blackbird Cottage for 7 nights from 19th September 2025, we found the cottage to be very well equipped to cater for up to 4 people.We were greeted on arrival by David who was cleaning his car at the time, he gave a short tour of the cottage pointing out that it was an Eco property with it's own bore hole for water and septic tanks so not to put anything down the toilets except toilet paper. He went on to say that they have regular power outages and pointed out the torch in the kitchen, unfortunately we found that the torch didn't work as the battery was flat and the re-charging lead was nowhere to be found, previous guests had commented the same about the torch in the visitors book.We found that the oven had not been cleaned prior to our arrival and the oven tray was so dirty that we had to clean it before we could cook our evening meal, not the best start to our week. The kitchen is extremely very well equipped with everything you need, we cooked every day and found that we had no problems with lack of anything.The dining and lounge area have everything needed for a perfect stay including a smart TV and plenty of board games for those wet days. The sofas although practical, were not particularly comfortable, but we are used to large squash sofas at home.The patio area appeared somewhat unloved with weeds growing between the slabs and a very nice large blue ceramic pot which would have looked much nicer with flowers rather than weeds growing in it.There are 4 sun loungers on the patio but despite having some very nice sunny days we were not able to use them as they are very rusty and really past their usefulness.Finally, whoever looks after the exterior of the property failed to notice the used (full) dog poo bag which had been left outside of the patio door by the previous week's occupants.These are only small niggly points that we have mentioned but we feel if the owners are not told they will always think that their property is perfect.We really enjoyed our week at Blackbird Cottage and would certainly return and also recommend it to family and friends.Thank you Dave and Deborah for the welcome gift of wine and milk which was very much appreciated.
