This detached, former farm cottage is in a truly rural location, high up on the Ridgeway in Wiltshire, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 1.5 miles from Ogbourne St George and 4 miles from Aldbourne. Thoughtfully renovated, this attractive cottage offers a peaceful country base from which to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Inside, you’ll discover a warm and comfortable social space with a superb kitchen and dining area, together with comfy seating where you can relax and snuggle up in front of the woodburning stove. There’s a further separate sitting room for those who wish to disappear to watch the TV in peace! There’s a shower room as well as a bathroom on the ground floor, so you won’t all have to queue up in the morning. Upstairs, there’s room for your entire group, including the youngsters, and there are amazing views across the nearby farmland from the front windows. Outside, there’s half an acre of lawned garden to enjoy, whilst the well-marked Ridgeway Trail goes straight past the front fence, offering fantastic walking opportunities. The two adjacent villages of Aldbourne and Ogbourne St George have friendly pubs serving good food and real ales, and there’s a lively golf club close by, whilst the attractive market town of Marlborough has a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants. A little further afield, but easily accessible, are the ancient stone circles of both Avebury and Stonehenge, and the Kennet and Avon canal which winds its way through the picturesque Pewsey Vale towards the regal city of Bath. Should you seek a peaceful holiday base far from the madding crowd then this lovely Wiltshire cottage is the place to stay!

Nestling in the valley of the quaintly named River Og beneath the picturesque Wiltshire Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, only 3 miles from the attractive market town of Marlborough is the pretty little village of Ogbourne St George. The village boasts a fine pub serving good food and ales as well as a renowned golf club which welcomes visitors. About a mile above the village can be found the world famous Ridgeway, thought to be Britain's oldest road, 85 miles of track which mostly follows the chalk downland of Southern England which has been in constant use for 4000 years.

We cannot wait to come back! The house itself is beautiful. It is well equipped and so very cosy and warm when it is cold outside. Thank you Annie for decorating it for Christmas and for the best and most generous welcome hamper we have ever seen from a Sykes Cottage until now. It was also lovely to have met you during our stay. We had the most wonderful time and so did our dog. She loved all the smells and the massive garden to run around in. She was quite intrigued by the pheasants that seemed to visit every day and would sit and watch them as opposed to wanting to chase them. The setting of the house is beautiful. Being in an AONB it is surrounded by nature, woods right behind and fields.to the front with great walks right from the door. With no artificial light in the vicinity the sky is lit up with stars at night. It is in a great location, just an hour from Salisbury and Stonehenge and down the road from Avebury. There is just one thing that could be added to make the property perfect in our eyes. There is no fencing in the front garden by the road. I believe there used to be a little picket fence (like what runs around the side where you park your car) but that has been taken out and replaced with very young hedging plants which will take years before they provide any kind of a deterrent for a dog to make a run for it. It is a shame as we felt we had to watch our dog every minute she was out in the front because of the road which isn't a busy one but still is what it is. Having said that, I would still come back.

It is a very nice and comfortable cottage to stay in. Beautiful surroundings. Only point of interest perhaps is the boiler heating up at night. It might be a little noisy.

Great location for walks, with wonderful scenery, from the cottage and further afield, and for exploring ancient sites such as Barbury Castle, White Horse Hill, Avebury etc.
