About this property

A stay at Carters Cottage brings you the best of both worlds, with a rural idyll on your doorstep and the twenty-first century delights of Salisbury and Bath just a short drive away. There’s plenty of space in this charming period cottage for you all to relax, with a sitting room and separate snug, which both have wood-burning stoves to keep you warm in the colder months.

The cottage has been decorated to make the most of its period charms, with an electric Aga in the kitchen and a lovely, well-established garden that is completely enclosed, ideal for young children. Yet there all the modern amenities you’d expect too, including Smart TVs and an en-suite.

You’ll find cycle paths and walking trails leading right from your front door at Carters Cottage, ideal if you want to take it easy in the beautiful countryside. The village of Codford is just two miles away, where there’s a handy supermarket, Post Office and pub. All the tourist sites of the South West are within easy access too, including the South Coast.

  • Known as ‘The city in the countryside,’ Salisbury has plenty to offer a visitor, including picturesque streets of timbered buildings, a magnificent cathedral that’s home to one of the copies of the famous Magna Carta, the award-winning Salisbury Museum and a bustling market too. Whatever you do while you’re here, make sure to walk through the Cathedral Close, a unique urban space that’s been home to a Prime Minister and a Nobel Prize-winning author.

  • Bath is an equally impressive town, with beautiful Georgian terraces, including the famous Royal Crescent, as well as lots of contemporary shops and restaurants. Take the waters at Thermae Bath Spa, visit No. 1 Royal Crescent to see what Georgian life was like, or simply do some window shopping.

  • Drive south from Carters Cottage and you’ll arrive at the Jurassic Coast, famous for the fossils of prehistoric life hidden in the rocks along the cliffs. You can try your hand at fossil hunting yourself, stroll along the atmospheric Cobb at Lyme Regis, or just spend an afternoon sunbathing on the beach.

  • The prehistoric is never far away in the South West. Stonehenge is just 15 miles or so from Salisbury. Just as impressive is Avebury, the largest stone circle in the country.

  • Longleat is an English stately home that comes with its own safari park. You can drive through the park to see lions, tigers, monkeys and more, or visit the house itself to discover the treasures and the history.

  • If you’re interested in military history or just enjoy a good day out, Fleet Air Arm Museum is dedicated to the history of British naval aviation. It’s home to Europe’s largest naval collection of helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.

  • Set in the heart of the New Forest, Beaulieu Motor Museum is home to over 250 vehicles, including Formula 1® cars and land speed record breakers. The grounds and garden are well worth a wander too.
