About this property

A first class, stone built, detached cottage in a most enviable location on the edge of the Dales village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale with fabulous views of Pen-y-Ghent. Located on the Pennine Way footpath this outstanding holiday home provides a great opportunity for family and friends to get away from it all and enjoy having one of the famous Three Peaks on the doorstep. Smart and stylish throughout, the owners have gone to great lengths to provide guests with a memorable holiday home. Featuring a spacious sitting room with a cosy woodburning stove, a stylish wooden floor, lovely views of the surrounding countryside and modern features such as the 40” Smart TV. Next to the sitting room there is a delightful summer room with a dining and seating area, Velux windows and patio doors overlooking open countryside. The dining room also provides a small seating area to sit, relax and enjoy an evening tipple. The second floor consists of a spacious master bedroom with a king-size bed and modern en-suite facilities. The second double has a luxurious super king-size bed (zip/link, can be a twin on request) and the third bedroom is a useful single room. The main bathroom, smart and stylish, consists of a shower cubicle and a separate warming bath, ideal after a day out on the fells. Outside there is a mature front garden area, ideal to sit out and enjoy the sights and sounds of the surrounding countryside. The lane running past the front of the house leads onto the main footpath to Pen-y-Ghent and for those relishing a challenge there is the famous Three Peaks Challenge, not for the faint hearted. For those less inclined towards the great outdoors, there are many sightseeing activities in the area - visit the Hoffman Kiln at Langcliffe, the famous Viaduct on the Settle-Carlisle railway recently used as the setting for the BBC series Jericho. The market towns of Settle and Skipton are close at hand and Kirkby Lonsdale and Hawes are well worth a visit and then finish the day with a short stroll to the heart of the village - the local pub. This is a stunning property in a fantastic, picturesque setting with something to suit everyone.

This beautiful Ribblesdale village sits within the National Park and provides home to lots of pretty traditional Dales buildings, a lovely Norman church and two pubs. The surrounding countryside is magnificent, offering the ideal location for fell walking, with the famous Three Peaks Walk, Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough offering some of the most challenging walks in the country. The famous Settle-Carlisle Railway passes through the village and passes some of the most beautiful and inspiring upland scenery in the country.

Set in a beautiful location, excellent for exploring the local area. The House, is perfectly equipped with everything that you need, the Garden Room extension is lovely to sit and take in the views and listen to the quiet at any time of the day. There wasn’t a local store open that we could see but we had arranged a food shopping home delivery and the ample sized fridge feeder stored our supplies. We are a family of four and my Dad came with us to look after our little dog who is now too old to go on longer walks and there was ample room for all of us. However I had messaged Sykes to ask if the Super King could be split into two singles, but this can’t have been passed on to the owner, which was entertaining for my two 20+ year old sons to have to share the bed! We explored Catrigg Force, Stainforth Force, scaled the mighty Pen-y-Ghent, stopping off at Hull and Hunt Pots on the hike up, Malham Cove, Gordale Scar, Janet’s Foss, Ribblehead Viaduct and Aysharth Falls, the weather was magnificent which enhanced our visit, would be lovely to visit in the colder months and enjoy the cosy log burner and we very much hope to do so one day. Horton Scar House was perfect for us in every way but I would like to see the misted double glazed units in some of the rooms to be replaced (I have replaced some of my own at home so know it isn’t too costly a problem to fix) just so those wonderful views out of the window can be appreciated even more

We walked from Malham to Horton, then from Horton to Hawes during our stay. The house was lovely, and beautifully furnished and decorated. Thank you for letting us stay at the house.

The lane leads straight to Pen-y-Ghent via Hull Pot, which we were lucky enough to see after heavy rain. There were a few minor niggles (some areas of mould on the ceiling and the non-stick pans could do with replacing) but otherwise it was perfectly clean and well furnished. The wood burner worked very well and it was great to have an EV charger. Martyn responded quickly by text to any queries we had. It would be helpful to provide some milk or even a small welcome pack as there are no shops in the village (unless Sykes have discontinued this practice since Covid?)
