Quietly tucked away behind the owner’s Georgian house, The Georgian Cottage is an absolute gem. Dating back to 1732, this annexe to the main house was once the servants’ quarters and is filled with original features including exposed oak beams. There is also a courtyard area at the front for guests’ use. Perfect for couples, families and friends who like to holiday together, the property lies within a minute’s walk from the heart of Bedale, a thriving market town which has a weekly market, many cafés, restaurants and pubs. Also lining the high street are many unique shops, boutiques and an auction house. Known as the ‘Gateway to the Dales’, Bedale is the ideal location for guests who enjoy walking, cycling and exploring. The Heritage Trail is a great walk taking in the town’s historic Georgian buildings, and a footpath along the beck passes the weir to the old canal basin which is renowned locally
as a real wildlife haven.
With only a short trip into the Yorkshire Dales, guests will be treated to some of the most magnificent scenery, views and countryside that the county has to offer. There are many walks and footpaths that lead directly from Bedale, with trails to suit all ages and abilities. Places to visit locally include Bedale Golf Club, Thorpe Perrow Arboretum with its Bird of Prey Centre. With its magnificent ballroom, Bedale Hall also houses the museum, tourist information centre, library and a childrens play area in the park. Kiplin Hall and Jervaulx Abbey are always popular, as is Nosterfield Nature Reserve. The Wensleydale Railway is also a popular attraction, you can purchase tickets and board the train at Bedale Station. There is also the chance to visit the visitors centres at both Theakston’s and The Black Sheep Breweries, both in Masham, which are only a short drive away. Also within easy reach by car, are the popular local towns and villages including Northallerton, Leyburn, Hawes, Barnard Castle, Richmond, York and Durham.
