The Georgian Cottage sleeping up to 4 guests

Retaining many original features, this cottage was once the servants’ quarters to the main house, and lies close to the heart of Bedale.
Quietly tucked away behind the owner’s Georgian house, The Georgian Cottage is an absolute gem. Dating back to 1732, this annexe to the main house was once the servants’ quarters and is filled with original features including exposed oak beams. There is also a courtyard area at the front for guests’ use. Perfect for couples, families and friends who like to holiday together, the property lies within a minute’s walk from the heart of Bedale, a thriving market town which has a weekly market, many cafés, restaurants and pubs. Also lining the high street are many unique shops, boutiques and an auction house. Known as the ‘Gateway to the Dales’, Bedale is the ideal location for guests who enjoy walking, cycling and exploring. The Heritage Trail is a great walk taking in the town’s historic Georgian buildings, and a footpath along the beck passes the weir to the old canal basin which is renowned locally
    as a real wildlife haven.
With only a short trip into the Yorkshire Dales, guests will be treated to some of the most magnificent scenery, views and countryside that the county has to offer. There are many walks and footpaths that lead directly from Bedale, with trails to suit all ages and abilities. Places to visit locally include Bedale Golf Club, Thorpe Perrow Arboretum with its Bird of Prey Centre. With its magnificent ballroom, Bedale Hall also houses the museum, tourist information centre, library and a childrens play area in the park. Kiplin Hall and Jervaulx Abbey are always popular, as is Nosterfield Nature Reserve. The Wensleydale Railway is also a popular attraction, you can purchase tickets and board the train at Bedale Station. There is also the chance to visit the visitors centres at both Theakston’s and The Black Sheep Breweries, both in Masham, which are only a short drive away. Also within easy reach by car, are the popular local towns and villages including Northallerton, Leyburn, Hawes, Barnard Castle, Richmond, York and Durham. Paul and Sheenagh – 18 Oct 2018
"Fabulous weekend away, wish we could have stayed longer. There are not enough words of praise in the dictionary to cover how amazing the owners (Val and John) are. Such a wonderful couple, so friendly, without being intrusive, they have this mix absolutely spot on. A warm welcome awaited us as soon as we arrived and Val showed us where everything was in the cottage, which had everything you could possibly need or want. A lovely bowl of fresh fruit and a pint of milk was so thoughtful too. We had some great chats and laughs with them too. Oh, did I forget to mention, the cottage is so comfy and cosy, extremely well looked after and so clean. A perfect home away from home and we will definitely return, as soon as is possible.Thank you"

    Roger – 10 Jun 2018
"We thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay at the Georgian Cottage which is located within a couple of hundred yards of Bedale main street. The owners were very friendly, there to welcome us when we arrived and show us round the property explaining where things were stored etc. A welcome pack was appreciated. The Cottage is very spacious and comfortable with everything that could be needed for a week or even longer holiday. Bedale is well situated for touring and there are a number of attractions not very far away. Parking was off the road and within the curtilage of the property. We would recommend to friends who wished to visit that part of Yorkshire"

"Val & John were very welcoming. The fruit and milk was much appreciated. Beds were very comfortable and so was the sofa bed. Having space to park 2 cars was great. Plenty of tourist leaflets in the property so you could plan your day trips whilst sitting in the garden seated area. Would visit again and recommend."

"We had a fabulous weekend in the cottage for my 60th birthday. Val and John were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them, they even provided a bandage/ strap for my husbands anklewhen he injured it. Will definitely be returning, and would recommend it to anyone"

    colin – 4 Apr 2018
"Lovely cottage just as you enter bedale hidden from the high street. Dog friendly pubs, cafes, and local people. Val and john are helpful friendly hosts who will make you most welcome. At the 4 TEAS café they actually give your dog a small bowl of chicken, as you eat the wonderful homemade cakes. To sum up ,we have booked a further 2 weeks later in the year at this lovely cottage."
    Martyn – 17 Feb 2018
"A lovely cottage with lovely owners. We stayed over the February half term and found lots to do in the local area with younger children. The cottage was well equipped and very quiet, despite being just moments from all the amenities of this lovely market town. We tried a number of the pubs and restaurants in the town, all of which were good. Would thoroughly recommend this place to others."
