Veronica and her lovely husband were so helpful and kind they made us feel incredibly welcome. The location of the cottages is excellent and roughly and hour from key towns in the area. We were able to walk nearby on the moors and took recommendations from the owners about places to eat and drink. The cottages are incredibly well designed and the furniture and fittings of high quality. We wouldnt hesitate to stay here again in the peace and tranquility of the gorgeous farm and couldnt recommend it highly enough. Thank you both so much for your kindness to all of us and particulalry to Poppy who fell in love with your horses.

As country dwellers ourselves we can live with flies, spiders and no mobile signal but... Every holiday rental we have taken has had some form of welcome pack. For the price charged, I would have expected maybe a pack of local biscuits and bottle of wine. Dog friendly rentals normally include a token gesture of a couple of poo bags and even treats. The Sykes website show two different shower rooms (there is no bathroom) a downstairs one is mentioned in previous reviews but there isn't one. The kettle needed cleaning as did the kitchen recycling bin which we did rather than ask the owners. The water pump runs on intermitently and needs tap to be turned on and off but maybe that's a random plumbing issue. Mattress needs replacing as sunken on one side and stained, I turned the mattress whilst there. Apart from a couple of cubes in an opened bag in the freezer there were no ice cube trays or bags stored somewhere obvious. For a luxury holiday I would expect the salt and pepper pots to be filled at least. No visitor book (or maintenance log) on display, I introduced myself to Veronica and Graham when they were sat on their porch, no meet and greet or tour of cottage as others have said. No instruction about the keys on departure so left inside door as they were for our arrival. The owners called us the day before our arrival day to say they were at a wedding and would catch us later, but they never came so we may have slipped their minds. Thurs to Sat, builders working in adjacent barn but not forewarned out of courtesy. This wasn't an issue but sawing and drilling from 8.30am set the dog off barking. None of these issues were brought to the owners attention at the time (some shouldn't have been an issue if monitored) as we got on with it and tried to enjoy our time in Yorkshire. PS if you get a chance, visit Redcar beach, call in for a meal at The Buck Inn up the road and buy some delicious baked goods at Thomas' Bakery in Helmsley.
