APPLETREE COTTAGE sleeping up to 4 guests

Dating back more than 150 years, these former farm buildings are set on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park surrounded by views towards the Cleveland Hills. Oozing charm and character, each cottage has its own secluded garden and are peacefully located on the edge of the Georgian market town of Stokesley, hosting the weekly market with the cobbled streets lined with an eclectic mix of shops. There are plenty of inns and tea rooms from which to enjoy some of Yorkshire’s finest cuisine. Orchard Cottages is an ideal location from which to explore both the stunning North Yorkshire Moors and the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire, surrounded by superb walks and cycle tracks leading into the heart of the moors where some of the prettiest villages await discovery. There’s easy access to Herriot’s home town of Thirsk, and the pretty market town of Helmsley will never disappoint, and a little further is the ancient town of Pickering, home to the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway and is well worth the journey through the Esk Valley into the well-known villages of Grosmont and Goathland. A 10-mile drive leads to the Victorian seaside town of Saltburn and this is the place to begin a journey through the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire, discovering tiny fishing villages and rugged cliff top walks affording panoramic coastal views, Staithes, Runswick Bay, the ancient sea port of Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay then Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. There are miles of sandy beaches perfect for family days out, museums, stately halls and homes - the area is steeped in history. Golf, horse riding and swimming pool available locally. Shop and pub 1 mile.

"Lovely spacious property in very peaceful location. The cottage was nicely furnished and comfortable however the kitchen was a bit lacking in cooking utensils but this would not put me off going back for another holiday."
"Lovely cottage just quite remote to get too, down a rutted track, also no where for my collie to run free as the field had sheep in and the only fields was very rutted for us to walk, and she needs plenty of exercise."

"This really is a hidden gem. The photos and description on the website do not do this delightful cottage justice. So spacious with huge farmhouse kitchen, fantastic outside space and lots of chill out areas if you need them. The owners home from home touches just adds to the surprises. totally safe and secluded for dogs, and a fantastic area to explore. Loved it. Aug 2011. "

"We had visited this property before, and it was just as lovely as we remembered it. Extremely high standard, and the presence of plentiful supplies of everything in the kitchen and the bathroom, made it feel as if we were at home. We have recommended this accommodation to all our friends. June 2010."

"Cosy cottage with nice fluffy towels and a few wee extras in the kitchen which we appreciated. More detail for the final stage of directions would be good - which farm tack to pursue. March 2010."
    Previous guest
"Very modern transformation of an old cow-shed with just a hint of the past (gnarled old beams) but with a plethora of electronic aids. Much comfort in a rural scene, and within walking distance of the delightful small town of Stokesley. Nov 2009."
    Previous guest

"Excellent location for a peaceful and tranquil holiday. Would definitely book again. March 2009."
    Previous guest
"Bread, ginger cake and jam, all homemade by our host, plus milk and butter in the kitchen on our arrival. Lovely location, just so quiet, even though not at all remote. The cottage has been finished to a very high standard. The huge kitchen with tiled floor was great for our dogs, which I look for when renting a cottage with our dogs. The shower was very powerful which you do not expect in a rental property. Lovely property and super location for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors. Oct 2008."
    Previous guest
"The owners could not have been any more helpful. The cottage itself, grounds and the location were second to none- overall fabulous! We have recommended it to our family and friends- thank you. Oct 2008."
