About this property

A beautiful, red brick barn conversion, adjoining the owner's home on their smallholding, in the sleepy village of East Cowton, seven miles from the pretty market town of Northallerton. Perfectly placed for exploring both the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, this lovely property provides a romantic retreat for couples wanting a touch of luxury. Sympathetically-converted to the highest of standards, there is a spacious open plan living area, with a high-pitched roof and exposed timbers. The modern and well-equipped kitchen is to one end, with a small dining area, whilst the comfortable sitting area has a cosy electric fire, set in a feature fireplace and French doors leading to the rear patio. With quality furnishings, Laura Ashley fabrics and many homely touches, including underfloor heating, there is a warm and welcoming ambience. The attractive double bedroom leads off from the sitting room, with an additional TV and a contemporary travertine tiled en-suite, with a walk-in shower. Outside the property, there is a small rear patio, a pleasant place to sit and relax in the sun, whilst the front affords fine views over open countryside. Guests also have access to 20 acres of fields, a sure hit with any four legged friends! A couple of minutes’ walk brings you to the village shop and local inn, serving good beer and food, whilst the few minutes’ drive to Northallerton, provides two weekly markets, excellent restaurants, tea rooms and many independent shops. Enjoy afternoon tea in the famous Bettys tea room, an absolute treat for all, or wander along the main street, with its artisan bakery, delis and award-winning butchers. From Northallerton, the high speed rail link to York takes 20 minutes, an enjoyable day out to walk the historic walls, visit the famous York Minster and take a trip back in time at the Jorvik Viking Centre. Rail enthusiasts will delight in the National Railway Museum, whilst the many upmarket shops, provide excellent retail therapy. An ideal and splendid base for Dale, Vale and Moors!

The market town of Northallerton in North Yorkshire is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the edge of the Vale of York. The town has two weekly markets and a number of independent and national shops, including a butcher's, bakers and greengrocers.

With so many properties to choose from the choice was difficult but we wanted Ground floor accommodation and access to an exercise area for our young dog. We saw The Byre and chose it on the basis of the pictures and reviews. We were not disappointed. Very good accommodation, owner was very helpful and the welcome basket of items was very thoughtful and much appreciated. Quiet area, good parking and entrance through a large Utility Room made changing wet clothes and dog drying easy, also easy for cleaning. Local pub only a short walk and travel time to Northallerton and Richmond approx. 30 minutes. All in all an enjoyable week.

Very well appointed, with attention to detail - everything you could need for a relaxing break. Communication with Mel was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. Would highly recommend and hope to return to explore the area further. Visit the Beeswing, in the village for a warm welcome and excellent food. Thank you.
