About this property

A charming, stone-built end-terrace cottage in the small village of Hudswell, two miles from Richmond. Fully renovated by the owners, this first class Yorkshire Dales cottage provides the perfect holiday home for a romantic break. This cottage is full of character and charm, and seamlessly combines many of the original features, including old ceiling beams, with modern design and ingenuity to provide a truly luxurious holiday home. It features a delightful sitting room with stylish furnishings, a feature fireplace with cosy woodburning stove, and the lovely nooks and crannies associated with a cottage of its grand old age. The rear boasts a modern kitchen with a beautiful kitchen/diner, complete with a wonderful bright and cheery feel from the inventive use of Velux windows and patio doors. Upstairs, the cottage offers a romantic king-size double bedroom with decorative feature fireplace, handmade furniture created by a local craftsman and lovely soft furnishings, creating a luxurious feel in this premier holiday home. This is a wonderful cottage to return home to after a day out on the local fells, so why not prepare a tasty evening meal and retire to the lovely patio to relax and discuss the day’s events? Lovely walks from the doorstep into the surrounding Swale Valley, and close proximity to a wonderful atmospheric pub, owned by the village co-operative, and a traditional village shop, all enhance the experience of a stay in this delightful cottage. Discover Richmond's cobbled streets and architecture, with an array of superb inns and restaurants and several intriguing museums. This is a superb base for exploring nearby Swaledale, the National Park, York Minster and the North York Moors, making this cottage an ideal location, whatever the time of year.

Hudswell is a small village located just two miles the town of Richmond in Swaledale. Set in rolling countryside, the village boasts a high street with old houses lining the route, and a local pub, the George and Dragon. Like many village pubs, it recently fell on difficult times, so the villagers clubbed together and now run it as a 'Community Pub Initiative'. The market town of Richmond stands to the north of the River Swale. The town grew up around its castle and today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed by the castle or alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls. Narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers' market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy.

We collected the keys from the host who made us very welcome and the freshly baked scones were a lovely treat . The local pub is a minutes walk away and well worth a visit . We would definitely book again .

It has everything you need for a break away from home. Everything is immaculate and so well thought out. The welcome pack and especially the scones and cream was so thoughtful, and much appreciated after a long drive. I would love to come back and will recommend this cottage to friends and family.
