About this property

A stone-built semi-detached barn conversion situated on the edge of the hamlet of Worton near Hawes. Renovated to a very high standard, this charming property retains much original character, including exposed beams, stylish window shutters and stonework, and window seats. Laid out in the unusual and popular upside down design, the main living area at this cottage near Hawes is situated on the first floor to take advantage of the lovely views on offer. Featuring a cosy sitting room with beams, a farmhouse-style kitchen with central dining area and two spacious bedrooms, this cottage near Hawes is great for a romantic retreat or small family getaway. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the walled, outdoor area, or follow the many peaceful walks through the village and absorb the striking views. Worton has one of the few remaining classic front room pubs at The Victoria Arms; run by the Daykin family since 1956, this gem of a pub is truly individual, with its stone-flagged floors and roaring open fire. Whilst The Victoria Arms doesn't do food, there are pubs in Askrigg that do. Askrigg, known as Darrowby in the TV series All Creatures Great and Small, is only a short walk across the fields or an easy drive away, and also has tea shops, a village shop and a deli/bakery. This is a great location for walkers, from the castles at Bolton and Middleham, to Hardraw Force, England's highest single drop waterfall. This superb cottage near Hawes is a fantastic base from which to explore all that Wensleydale and Swaledale have to offer.

The beautiful village of Askrigg is set in stunning Wensleydale. Askrigg is known to many as the home of Skeldale House where vet James Herriot lived in "All Creatures Great and Small." This breathtaking area is home to many beauty spots including Aysgarth Falls and nearby Semerwater, Yorkshire's only natural lake, which was formed (so legend says) after a weary traveller was refused hospitality from a raging storm by the villagers and so cursed the village to a watery end. There are castles at Bolton and Middleton, the spectacular Hardraw Force, England's highest single drop waterfall at a height of 99 feet and many other market towns and villages to discover. Askrigg is a wonderful village from which to discover this magnificent area and makes a great holiday base.
