The Snug sleeping up to 2 guests

An aptly named ’snug’ for 2 with a secluded courtyard located in the quiet village of Glaisdale in the Esk Valley, 10 miles from Whitby.
The Snug is a terraced cottage set in the old mining village of Glaisdale in the heart of the Esk Valley. To the rear of the property is a private courtyard, a suntrap where you can sit and enjoy a drink taking in the wonderful uninterrupted views across the valley and the rolling countryside. With some of the best walks in Yorkshire, Glaisdale is a great base for walkers, cyclists and those wishing to experience the beauty of the North York Moors National Park. The village lies just south of the River Esk where there’s excellent fly fishing to be had (licences can be purchased from the local shop). The Esk Valley Railway runs through the village. Trains run from Whitby to Middlesbrough on a regular basis. From Whitby you can also catch the steam train over the moors to the market town of Pickering.
The town and seaside resort of Whitby is less than 10 miles away where you’ll find an array of shops, pubs and restaurants. Whitby is still a busy working harbour and you can sit and watch the fishermen bring in their catch or see the children enjoying the pleasure boats. Whitby has a large sandy beach and perched on the hill overlooking the town is the famous Whitby Abbey. The cobbled streets lead you up to the abbey where the last stretch is a climb of 199 steps. There are excellent views from the top down towards Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough, then north towards Sandsend and Staithes. Beach 10 miles. Shop 40 yards, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

    Mrs Stones – 25 Nov 2018
"Was very comfortable and relaxing for myself and dog. Lovely views. Walks from doorstep. Local shop few doors down. Super quiet. Ideal base to explore North York Moors, villages, and quite close to coast also (Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay etc). Cottage comfortable and warm. Thoroughly recommend."
    Helen – 30 Oct 2018
"Good location, ideal size for two and the milk and cake on arrival were welcomed. However, a few small things that would have made the stay more comfortable: • Extra pillows - only one pillow per guest available, • No hair dryer available, • Fire lighters, newspaper and coal were available but no logs or kindling for the fire. Arriving once the village shop had closed we couldn't purchase any and although an electric heater was available, given the temperature we spent the first evening sat in the cold. Also we didn't want to leave an electric heater on overnight so the downstairs was extremely cold the following morning.• Wifi/internet would be a welcome addition, as well as a small supply of DVD’s (a small selection could be purchased from a charity shop!). Minor and inexpensive additions but they would have made a difference!"
    Graham – 1 Sep 2018
"a homely place to stay in the most beautiful of surroundings. The house has all you need (apart from logs) and was an excellent base to explore North Yorkshire."
    Sue – 28 Aug 2018
"Lovely cottage in a beautiful area. Unfortunately we didn’t sleep well as the mattress has the well used, roll together feature! We were only on a 2 night break over the bank holiday so the local office was unavailable for us to request a new mattress, and I’m sure it wouldn’t have been possible to arrange so quickly. However, if a new one could be provided for future visitors, it would certainly improve facilities."
    John – 24 Jul 2018
"Snug as the name suggests, ideal walking area, good little shop & butchers almost next door, local pub good food and beer,"
    Jonathan – 16 Jul 2018
"The snug is as it is described! But it’s a great place for a couple to explore the NYM and the coast. Whitby 10 Miles and lots of lovely Villages close by.I’d stay again!"
    Danielle – 8 May 2018
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the snug and will be returning"
    Judy – 18 Apr 2018
"This is a lovely quaint cottage. It is in a good location to travel the North York moors. We took our dog as it is pet friendly. If you want a quiet and small break away its ideal. As we had poor weather the option of the open fire, cosiness, draught free building and piping hot water were very welcome. Nice butchers and corner shop about 6 houses down."
    Clive – 4 Jan 2018
"Great cosy cottage in lovely Glaisdale close to the moors and Whitby"
