Ammonite Cottage sleeping up to 4 guests

Ammonite Cottage is located in the quiet coastal hamlet of Port Mulgrave in the top NE corner of the North York Moors National Park. With its far-reaching sea views, the Cleveland Way just a 2-minute walk away and private parking for two cars, Ammonite Cottage serves as an excellent base from which to explore North Yorkshire’s magnificent Heritage Coastline and the beautiful North York Moors countryside. Whilst semi-rural and well tucked away from the coastal tourism hustle and bustle, the charming seaside fishing villages of Runswick Bay and Staithes are situated just 5 minutes away by car or less than an hour away on foot via a bracing cliff-top walk along the Cleveland Way. The coastline between Staithes and Whitby is a beachcombers’ paradise world-renowned for its 175 million Jurassic era fossils including an abundance of ammonites and belemnites. The kitchen is modern and spacious with a practical central island completing the layout. Just off the kitchen you’ll find the family bathroom finished with stylish black tiles, a contemporary washbasin and a shower over the bath. After a rewarding but tiring day of venturing along coastline and through countryside, you can relax in the spacious and luxuriously appointed lounge whilst warming yourself by a wood-burning stove. The ground floor also houses a well-presented double bedroom. The master bedroom on the first floor features a generous king-size bed and open sea views from a Velux roof window. The large adjacent landing area off which the bedroom is accessed features a dressing table and chair lit by 2 more Velux roof windows with sea views providing the ideal place to get ready for the day ahead. Immediately off the lounge you can venture outside and relax on your own private deck with a refreshing drink, or take a stroll down the garden all the time enjoying the far-reaching sea views out over the North Sea. The close-by villages of Hinderwell and Staithes offer good local amenities including a co-op, butcher, several pubs and a petrol station. A little further away 8 miles down the coast sits the historic fishing town of Whitby with its world-famous abbey and wide variety of shops, cafes and restaurants. An ideally situated cottage with spectacular sea views from which to explore the fascinating and dramatic Heritage Coastline as well as the glorious North York Moors countryside.

A coastal hamlet with sea views and cliff-top walks to Staithes or Runswick Bay. Within easy reach are Whitby - with its abbey and beaches, the North York Moors National Park and Flamingo Land near Malton. Saltburn-by-the-Sea is another popular seaside resort close by.

"We absolutely loved our week's stay at Ammonite Cottage. The cottage was perfect for myself, husband, two children and baby with everything we needed to hand. We were lucky to have lovely weather and loved spending our evenings sitting in the back garden taking in the amazing views. My children especially loved seeing Whisper the horse in the field behind the garden who was very friendly. The cottage was spotless and the decor is lovely. I always hope for a comfy bed where ever I stay and I was not disappointed at all with the king size bed. Everything was thought of to make our stay a fantastic one down to the lovely flowers and bottle of Prosecco waiting for us on arrival. Thank you! We hope to be back."

    - Mr Lloyd-williams, August 2018
"Ammonite Cottage is the best dog friendly holiday cottage we have been to. The cottage is very well equipped and very comfortable. The view from the garden is lovely. There are lots of places to visit around the area - Staithes being our favourite, closely followed by Sandsend."

    - Mrs Pearson, March 2018
"Lovely location, stunning sea views. The cottage was probably the nicest we've ever stayed in. Everything new and fresh and the owners happy to supply whatever necessary to make the stay as comfortable as possible. Would definitely recommend this property and would be more than happy to return."
    - Ms Jewitt, March 2018
"The cottage was lovely and warm and very comfortable, perfect for a getaway. Overlooking the sea with a lovely south facing garden, meant we were even able to sit out for a couple of days, despite the forecast. The community of Port Mulgrave was equally hospitable, made our trip very memorable, we will certainly be back. The added Prosecco and flowers on arrival, set the tone for a super week away. Thank You"
    - David B, March 2018
"Me and my wife stayed here for a week at end of February. It is a lovely cottage nice and clean very well equipped I think we may have been the first people to stay here every thing is perfect no expense spared with the modernisation of this cottage the owners have done themselves proud there was a nice bunch of flowers and bottle of proseco Evan cans of my favourite lager in the fridge logs for the fire also It has a lovely garden we couldn’t use it because of the weather but it’s nice the location is good just 10 mins walk from Hinderwell and about 40 mins each way to staiths and Runswick along the Cleveland Way The gentleman who owns the cottage popped by to see if we were ok on the Thursday as he was concerned about us with the weather being bad which was very nice of him thanks for that. All in all a great cottage well done and thank you for letting us stay there and hopefully we will be back when it’s better weather Ps the brown cow in Hinderwell does good food do not be put off by the outside look it’s a great pub. 5 out of 5 for the cottage"

    - Mrs Newbould, April 2018
"A wonderful holiday, home from home, the owners should be proud of themselves. From the welcome pack of flowers and prosecco, to the peace and quiet of the surroundings, to the beautiful views of the coast and seaviews. The patio and garden to relax and enjoy. A truly magical place, would highly recommend."
    - Mrs Roman, May 2018
"Cottage is beautifully furnished and decorated, will definitely book again"
    - Miss Buckley, June 2018
"The cottage is absolutely brilliant, from the peaceful location (but still within walking distance of pub/cafe), the views out to sea, the ability to walk the Cleveland Way straight from the door step to the adventurous climb down to Port Mulgrave being close by. Inside the cottage also does not disappoint, it’s clean, cosy, comtempory finish is lovely and it is very well equipped. We are a family with young children so the highchair and travel cot were very useful too. If you love the great outdoors, the surrounding area has so much to see and do and the Cottage makes an ideal base from which to explore. We can not recommend this place highly enough and we would definitely stay again."
    - Mr Dolman, June 2018
"We had a truly great holiday & would not only use again I will be recommending them to everyone l know. The cottage was so nice we could not off asked for more & the owners of it should be very proud off the service they are providing. Again I will be recommending this property to everyone I know. As for as a company we can not fault them in anyway as I found it very easy to book on there site & after booking they kept me informed as what was happening with my booking all they way though till we left for our holiday. A very happy couple"

"Nice position & lovely views. Peaceful & relaxing with plenty of nice walks & lots of places to visit & owner's willing to sort out any issues. Worth visiting Ravenscar for a view of the seals, & really good food at 'Generous George' on the way to Scarborough. Looking forward to our return visit."
    - Ms Davies, February 2019
"The views of the sea are a real highlight of this lovely cottage and we were made to feel immediately welcome, with a letter from the owners including how to contact them, and a bottle of Prosecco and fresh flowers. The cottage itself is charming and has a long garden that is a joy to experience on a sunny day. ..."
