About this property

This 100-year-old stone built detached former coach house lies on the edge of the small scattered village of Staintondale, between Scarborough and Whitby. Set within the North York Moors National Park, it is an ideal base for families or groups of friends to explore both the nearby dramatic coastline and the stunning surrounding scenery. Inside, there is a welcoming sitting room, with a crackling open fire and character beams. The separate dining room has a stone flagged floor and large glass patio doors, while the well-equipped country style kitchen is perfect for preparing tasty family meals. With a ground floor single bedroom and bathroom, and an en-suite off the twin room, this charming property caters for all needs. Outside, there is a small rear patio, ideal for guests to sit and relax with a morning coffee, before heading off for the day. From the door, there are excellent walking and cycling opportunities, with the 23 mile Cinder Track just down the road and the clifftop Cleveland Way Trail just a little further. The nearby traditional coastal resort of Scarborough is a delight, where the family can enjoy the classic seaside fun of building sandcastles, paddling in the sea, donkey rides and tackling candy floss, as well as trying your hand at surfing. Stroll along the promenade, climb up to the castle ruins, or wander around the pretty gardens, including Peasholm Park. The fresh sea air will whet your appetite and there is plenty of choice, with cafes, bistros and good restaurants to tempt you, along with renowned fish and chips. With the spectacular scenery of the North York Moors to explore, plus Whitby and quaint coastal villages such as Robin Hood's Bay to visit, your first visit to Wyke Lodge Cottage won't be your last.

Staintondale is a delightful village on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, close to the coast. Midway between the fishing town of Whitby, with its Abbey, and the town of Scarborough, with its theatres and entertainment, it is a haven of peace offering the best of both worlds. From Staintondale itself, a network of footpaths and bridleways can be enjoyed.

) Communication by Sykes and the owner was superb. The cottage is perfectly located and we had the most amazing week there. The heating ( that I noticed was complained about) is fine as long as you understand the system and how it’s suppose to work. No real negative comments to make. Downsides ( which aren’t a reflection on the owner and we were aware of most upon booking, but worth noting for others to be aware of) - It is slightly precarious pulling on the driveway with where the cottage is located on the lane. - We left the bin out as instructed but the council didn’t empty it (was already very nearly full when arrived) It meant having to leave a couple of bags of rubbish on top of the bin, which we felt bad to do but didn’t have time to do anything else with it. - The bathroom upstairs is the en-suite to the twin bedroom so meant tip toeing in at 1am! Was fine for us but if you are staying with separate families, might be a bit awkward. P.S if you intend to have a BBQ, get some utensils. That was the only thing we couldn’t find. Overall, absolutely fantastic stay at Wyke Lodge.
