Outside a small, enclosed courtyard garden is a lovely suntrap - a peaceful spot to sit and relax with a glass of wine, after a busy day out exploring. Conveniently situated, a five-minute walk along the lane brings you to the local pub serving food, a real bonus if you don't feel like cooking. Also nearby, Beacon Farm Ice Cream Farm and Tea Rooms is sure to be a big hit with everyone! The immediate area has a superb network of public footpaths, including the ancient monks trod, that led the monks to Whitby Abbey in days gone by. Cyclists are also well catered for, with the surrounding challenging terrain. Just a few minutes' drive brings you to Whitby, with its long sandy beaches, quaint streets, alleyways and cobbled market square. The town has much to offer, with restaurants, tea rooms, museums, pretty gardens in Pannett Park and an historic harbour. Climb the 199 steps up to Whitby Abbey or take a bracing cliff top walk along the Cleveland Way. For something a little different, why not book a night time ghost walk, or a whale watching trip? From harbourside cocktail bars to famous fish and chips, it has something for everyone. With the beautiful scenery of the North York Moors to discover nearby and numerous coastal and inland villages to visit, guests at Raygill Cottage are spoilt for choice.

The rural village of Sneaton lies close to Whitby, and within driving distance of Scarborough, in North Yorkshire. There are some wonderful walks in the area, including the notable Monks Trod, which leads down to Whitby. This fishing port has cobbled streets and alleys, beaches, restaurants and an array of cafes as well as its 199 steps to the abbey.
