Ivy Cottage is situated in Beck Hole, one of Yorkshire’s best kept secrets, and just outside the village of Goathland. This stunning cottage is just a short walk from one of the smallest pubs in the UK, known for its traditional ales and warm friendly welcome. Stunning valleys and sweeping hillside views can be enjoyed from the idyllic location. Cycle tracks, bridle paths and walkways abound from the doorstep with quaint little villages popping up when you least expect it.
Nearby Whitby is increasingly popular with holiday makers all year round as it has something to offer all the family, including 3 miles of golden beach, donkey rides and ice creams. Other things to do include rock pooling, climbing the 199 steps to the Gothic Whitby Abbey, which was made famous by Bram Stoker’s Dracula, or taking a stroll along the cobbled streets and taking in some of the older parts of town with its Jet Stone boutiques. Whitby has an up and coming foody scene too, with everything from Michelin star restaurants to award-winning fish and chips, tea rooms and family friendly pubs and bars, many offering live entertainment. There is also the golf course and many boats offering tourist trips out to sea in search of seals, dolphins and even whales in the right season.
The Yorkshire Heritage Coast is dotted with hidden gems such as Staithes and Runswick Bay to the north, and Robin Hood’s Bay to the south. Robin Hood’s Bay can be reached along the Cinder Track walk and cycle way, and the Cleveland Way also makes its way along the tops of cliffs and into the some of the bays, offering superb photo opportunities along its path. Take a steam train ride from Whitby right into Heartbeat Country and Goathland. The North York Moors National Park is right on your doorstep, with its 100s of walking routes which take in the Falling Foss Waterfall and The Moors National Park Centre. There are pushchair and wheelchair friendly woodland and riverside trails around the grounds. The traditional seaside town of Scarborough is just down the coast with its two long sandy bays, whilst the medieval walled town of York is also within driving distance. Beach 9 miles. Shop and restaurant 2 miles, pub ¼ mile.

Very well appointed cottage in a peaceful setting. Plenty of space for four people and a large dog.Negatives - the directions to the cottage were poor - we drove round for twenty minutes in a loop before having to call the owner (who didn't apologise...).Some small things in the cottage need attention - currently no hooks or towel rails in the bathrooms, no parasol outside on the sunny terrace (which is really needed at the moment), bathroom taps that deliver water via an open spout that splashes everywhere (including over you!).

We enjoyed a fantastic week in this beautiful cottage. The views are amazing and we enjoyed sitting outside in the sunshine. There is everything you could possibly need and is a fantastic base for exploring the area. The disused railway line from Goathland to Grosmont is not far and is a beautiful walk for humans and doggies and is the easiest way to walk into Goathland. We cannot wait to return

Lovely house. Perfect for 6 adults. Very well equipped with quality furnishings. Ideal summer house for summer days. Equipped for another 2, to stay. We stayed last week, perfect weather which obviously helped. Little further to whitby than we thought so £35 each way in taxi. Tesco delivers so ideal to get stocked up. Would benefit from a parasol and microwave but other than that ideal spacious cottage. Would highly recommend and would hope to return Owner helpful for contacting should you have any problems. The rattan corner sofas will need replacing soon as a couple of seats were a little worn. Overall a lovely week and extremely relaxing and peaceful.
