There are wonderful walks and cycle routes right from the door, including on the surrounding fells leading over to Haweswater and Ullswater, with excellent high level walking for the more adventurous, many of the Lake District's walks have their starting point from around Ullswater, including the renowned trek to Helvellyn's summit via Striding Edge, and more gentle footpaths, bridleways and quiet scenic roads for those just looking for more light activities in beautiful countryside. The attractive hamlet of Bampton situated in the Lowther Valley is a traditional Lakeland village away from the hustle and bustle of the busier central Lake District towns and villages, but with all the popular and much-loved tourist destinations close at hand.
