Dog Friendly Cottages in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland is awash with unforgettable landscapes, impressive beaches, and endless culture. Discover the magic for yourself with a property from our collection. We've curated a list of some of the finest homes across popular towns and lush, green countryside.

Dog-friendly Holidays in Northern Ireland

If you're looking for walks with breathtaking scenery, you can't go wrong with a trip to Northern Ireland. While the stunning UNESCO heritage site of Giant's Causeway is undoubtedly the most famous landmark, around 70% of the country's dramatic coastline is actually a designated “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.”

Enjoy the coast-side adventures and then head into nearby villages for a refresh. The gorgeous rural town of Bushmills near the causeway offers amazing seafood and some of the world's best whiskey, for example. Meanwhile, the picturesque town of Enniskillen in County Fermanagh boasts a 15th-century Castle Museum.

The nearby picturesque seaside town of Portrush is another one of our favourites. Northern Ireland has 8 Blue Flag beaches and three of them are found here, all of them being dog-friendly. It's also part of the Causeway Coastal Path so you can enjoy plenty of routes where your pooch can roam free.

Of course, we have to mention Northern Ireland's capital, Belfast. The thriving port city has so much to do and see with a huge array of dog-friendly shops, restaurants, pubs and attractions. The Maritime Mile in the renovated docks area houses the SS Nomadic as well as The Titanic Quarter and is well worth a stroll through. For food afterwards, we recommend the dog-friendly Lamppost Cafe for afternoon tea or the Common Market for live music and street food vendors.

What our customers say about their holidays

An absolutely fantastic place to stay.

John and Kathleen made us very welcome form the moment we arrived. The scenic views from the house are beautiful. Nestled in a valley at the eastern point of Lower Lough McNean, the house is a stones throw form the lake and is surrounded by the most wonderful hills and countryside on both sides. Only 15 minutes’ drive from Enniskillen and access to all the shops you will need. The house was extremely well equipped and our hosts even left us starter supplies to get us settled in, you don’t get that sort of touch in the more commercial lets. The house has four main bedrooms three bathrooms. There is a wet room on the ground floor which is a god send if you have anyone with a disability or more frail individuals joining you. We had two children with disabilities, one with autism and one visually impaired and the wet room suited their needs perfectly. A good size reception room, lovely large kitchen with all the appliances you need and a great sitting area at the rear of the house. The house is on a working farm but it doesn’t impact on your stay and the children with us loved seeing the young calves in the surrounding fields. We took two small boats with us to fish on the lake and John the host gave us access to the shore to launch them. For any fishing enthusiasts among your company the lake has a great stock of pike, bream, roach an perch. You may be lucky enough to land a nice brown trout. For walkers and hikers, you will be spoilt for choice, Cuilcagh mountain and the famous “Stairway to Heaven” is a must do. Cladagh Glen, Marble Arch Caves, Florence Court House, Castle Crom, and Pollnagollum Cave, which was used in filming for the popular television series, Game of Thrones are all nearby. Enniskillen has a host of attractions and you are an hour or so from the coast, Sligo, Donegal etc. If you get bored in this beautiful area, you are tired of life. We had a wonderful week thanks to John and Kathleen and the only regret was not booking it for longer. We were all so impressed that we will book it again for the same week next year. Can’t wait to go back

Overall, we did enjoy our stay, and while the cottage is well equipped and in a stunning location, on balance we will not be returning.

The positives were the extremely comfortable bed, plentiful hot water, well equipped kitchen, including a very welcome airfryer. The welcome pack consisted of about 150ml of milk, a packet of chocolate biscuits, and a fruit loaf. The location is great for recharging your batteries, in beautiful peaceful surroundings. The people of Rostrevor and Warrenpoint were all so friendly and helpful, we really enjoyed meeting them. The cottage was also immaculately clean. However, the condition of the access route, particularly for the last quarter of a mile renders it not for the fainthearted. The lack of phone signal, and the lack of safe drinking water should all be mentioned when booking. There was a large plastic drum of water, but we could not be confident of drinking it as we did not know how long it was there. Having texted both numbers to arrange key collection, between Thursday evening and Friday morning, without reply, I then phoned on Friday lunchtime to be advised of the arrangements. We arrived about 7. No fuel starter pack, there were two logs, but no means of starting a fire. Outside light was not working. It was a windy evening, we used the bath mat to block the large gap under the front door through which a fairly cold draught was coming. Other issues were less major: sweeping brush handle kept falling off, toilet seat was not properly fixed, the bathroom mirror was over the toilet, with the shaving light being over the sink on the opposite wall, the handle was missing on bathroom cupboard, chips on cup and glass; the washing machine was not available to us, it appeared to be in a locked shed behind the other cottage; the front steps are very uneven and quite slippy. I did text and WhatsApp these issues to the landlord at the end of our stay in the hope the they would be addressed for future holiday makers, but disappointingly we did not receive a reply to either message.

There were only two good things about this cottage.

The view and the heating. The rest was unacceptably bad.We booked this cottage after confirming by phone with Sykes from the owner that there was a gate on the property . No gate until we complained and was fitted Friday, did not fit so was adjusted Friday evening, too late for our holiday. They admitted trouble with contract cleaners and when we arrived late, dishwasher still full of previous week’s crockery, house very dirty. Cooker should be condemned. Pots and oven trays and toaster replaced Monday night, dispute over rest of cottage which I had spent time on cleaning so we could even sleep and eat there. I was unsure if sheets and pillowcases had been changed as smelt sweaty. Curtains off poles. Shabby furnishings. Shower drain no cover. Pans rusty and kettle so full of limescale that we stopped using it by end of week. Chopping board a health hazard. I am sure that they have done some very necessary work on this place in view of my many complaints but booker beware. This was the worst cottage we have ever stayed in over the years and I found Sykes to be slow with action taken, which wasn’t much. What isn’t mentioned in the information is that you are advised to use bottled water due to the high magnesium levels. However they did supply some bottles. Have not submitted a review until now as my husband taken I’ll on return from holiday.

We really enjoyed our stay at the farmhouse.

It's a lovely house. Thank you very much for the generous hamper! Just a couple of things to feedback. First, on the beds, there was a thick layer underneath the sheet as well as a thick duvet. This really wasn't necessary and made it too hot to sleep. I realise this could be removed by the guest, but I didn't feel comfortable doing so. Second, while it's good to have automatic outdoor lights, considering the house in located in a dark skies location, it would be amazing if they turned off after a minute. We sat outside and waited 10 minutes for the lights at the back to turn off. Once they were off, we loved being able to see the stars! Third, it's great that you offer an outside dog area. But we were confused as to where it was placed on the deck. Where it is, it blocks the view and the tall fence doesn't help. If you ever redo the back area, consider moving it to the fence which separates the farm from the back area and lower the fence. Then guests could really enjoy the amazing views! Just a few points to mention, but overall, absolutely amazing house in a stunning location and I would love to go back to the area and stay for a whole week and the farmhouse would make a perfect base! Just some minor points, but I think it would make a big difference.

What a wonderful home from home!

Nothing was too much trouble for Martina, who provided the warmest welcome on our first evening, the best welcome hamper and most fully supplied kitchen I’ve ever seen in a holiday cottage, and so many other little touches to make us feel comfortable, from the plentiful supply of fluffy towels to the turf for the range. Cosy evenings by the warm range doing the jigsaw puzzles and playing some of the board games were another highlight of our stay. The house itself is in a great location - peaceful and secluded but within an hour or two’s drive of all sorts of interesting places, so a great base from which to explore. It was a bonus to be so close to the Beaghmore Stone Circles, and we’ll have to go back in more clement weather to explore the observatory and the delights of the night sky in this area which is so beautifully free of light pollution. There was ample parking for our car, and our son enjoyed riding his bike in the driveway. Had he been more proficient, the Stone Circles and Davagh Forest were an easy cycle ride away and a lovely place to visit. All in all, a lovely week in the perfect holiday cottage. None of us wanted to leave, and we’re all looking forward to our next visit.
