This wonderful three storey character cottage is in the very heart of Darley Abbey village surrounded by historic cottages dating back to the 1970s, originally constructed for the people working in the mills on the Derwent.
Beautifully presented throughout with a wealth of character and charm, this property really is special. Enter the hallway where you can kick off your shoes and hang your coats ready to relax. There is a well-equipped kitchen and a cosy living area which is a very stylish place to relax. To the first floor are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom while the top floor houses the master bedroom. Outside there is a small forecourt and paved terrace area with seating to enjoy whilst watching the world go by.
Being set a stone’s throw away from Darley Park and the old red-brick mill buildings are two key reasons this cottage is such a special place to stay. The park features a variety of gardens and wildlife areas and boasts the largest collection of hydrangeas in Britain. Darley Park Tearooms provides views across to Derby Cathedral, and in the summer the park hosts an annual rowboat regatta on the Derwent. Nearby, the old mill structures now house a range of small businesses as well as restaurants and cafés, which form part of the Darley Abbey Heritage Trail.
With its mature trees, historic homes and the mills, much of Darley Abbey lies in a conservation area. The village takes its name from an Augustinian abbey that stood at the site from 1160 until 1538. The Abbey pub in the heart of the village is one of the last remaining monastic buildings and still serves ale some 800 years later.
Why not brush up on the local history by visiting the remains of Duffield Castle or the 18th-century Kedleston Hall, with an outdoor cinema during the warmer months. Alternatively, venture to the city centre of Derby, where you will find a number of amenities and attractions to suit all, or visit the quaint towns of Belper, Wirksworth and the wonderful attractions of the Peak District National Park.
