With easy access to the western Lake District s marvellous countryside right on the doorstep. The lakes Crummock and Loweswater are 4 miles away. Enjoy fishing, walking, boating and sightseeing in these beautiful areas. The Georgian market town of Cockermouth is 4 miles away, great for perusing independent shops and dining out. Whinlatter Forest Park (3.5 miles) is filled to the brim with cycling and walking routes as well as a fantastic Go Ape attraction. The local pub and village shop are in easy walking distance for picking up those last minute essentials. Winder Hall offers stately accommodation for 14 people 3 dogs, while single storey The Gatehouse is positioned a short walk away at the top of the drive and sleeps up to 4 people. The main house is brimming with history, charm and grandeur, the stately accommodation boasts stone mullion windows, antique furniture, original wall panelling and timeless soft furnishings. A wood panelled entrance hall welcomes you into the property, with plenty of space to store bags, coats and boots and a tiled WC complete with a Thomas Crapper lavatory. A professional kitchen with range style oven, electric hobs, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer is also furnished with a breakfast table for enjoying light meals or keeping the chefs company while they rustle up delicious feasts. Meanwhile, a utility room houses a washer/dryer. Once prepared, ring the large dinner gong before enjoying meals in the formal dining room complete with an open fire and baby grand piano for after dinner sing alongs. Afterwards, retire to the spacious lounge where you can help yourself to an evening tipple from the bar before lighting the open fire and relaxing in front of the Freeview TV and DVD player or choosing between the selection of board games. Strolling down the drive towards the main gates, you will find The Gatehouse. This single storey home has two entrances, with space for coats and boots in both areas. Head through to the open plan kitchen/diner where you ll find everything you need for a fantastic self catering stay in the Lake District. The kitchen has an oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and a washing machine. It also benefits from a fantastic Nespresso coffee machine so bring some pods and enjoy a sumptuous coffee. The dining table has four seats so you can socialise over a home cooked meal. Admire the views across the garden, pasture, river and beyond from the dining room s window. Through to the living room and you ll find vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. Fire up the warming wood burner and take a seat on the comfortable sofa. There s also a TV with Freeview and a DVD player for entertaining evenings in. The feature beams and ceilings continue through to the two bedrooms. A pretty double room has a built in wardrobe and the twin room (which can be made up as a super king on request) has superb views into the garden. The family bathroom has a shower and WC. To the rear of the cottage is a spacious enclosed garden. A large lawned space boasts a border of mature shrubs and pretty flowers as well as a wooden bench. Take a seat and soak up the views of the surrounding fells. Both properties offer easy access to the private pasture and the stunning half mile private walk along the River Cocker, along with fishing rights. There is ample parking to the front of Winder hall and space for 2 additional cars on the driveway of The Gatehouse. Need to know: 7 bedrooms 4 king size and 3 doubles. 4 en suite shower rooms and 3 en suite bathrooms, 2 with showers over the bath and 1 with separate walk in shower, plus 1 ground floor WC. Please note that for fishing you will require a national rod licence which is available to purchase online or at the post office. . Three travel cots are available please request these at the time of booking if required. Group bookings may need to be checked with the owner first before confirming. Please note that dogs must be kept downstairs at Winder Hall, no dogs are allowed in The Gatehouse. For 2023 Winder Hall and The Lodge Wider Hall can be booked separately or together for parties of 4 18.
