About this property

Dale House is a semi-detached early Victorian house resting in High Lorton, a quaint Lakeland village surrounded by spellbinding scenery from glistening lakes and magnificent mountain views to pretty Lakeland towns. Retaining many original features, including stained glass, a characterful open fire and Inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove, this retreat is a charming base for families or travellers. The lounge oozes comfort and tradition, with books and collectables on display, creating somewhere pleasant to relax morning through to evening. Join the whole family for some quality time in the dining area, equally as impressive, with seating for eight people, a woodburning stove, and a piano to really set the scene. The kitchen brings a fresh feel to the cottage, with whitewashed units and a country overtone, neighboured by an equipped utility area. The next floor is a characterful haven, offering three different room styles, each boasting their own personality, with access to the modernised family bathroom. After a peaceful night's sleep, why not enjoy a moment or two on the delightful sunny patio, or tour the village, from which to explore the quiet and less frequented Vale of Lorton which includes Buttermere, Loweswater and Crummock. Also, Keswick is only 7 miles away. There is an abundance of walking opportunities directly from the door and close by Whinlatter Forest is home to a whole host of activities including Go-Ape tree top adventure on the Whinlatter Pass, mountain biking and orienteering to name just a few. There is no wonder that once discovered, holidaymakers choose to return to the area year after year.

Surrounded by the mountains such as Grasmoor, Hopegill Head and Whiteside, Lorton is a perfect destination for exploring a number of hill walks, and visitors are encouraged to visit the 12th century St. Cuthbert’s church. Lorton itself is relatively unspoilt by tourism and yet lies only approximately 4 miles away from Cockermouth.

The outside furniture is a table with attached benches. As others have mentioned, the bathroom could do with a spruce up, but the water was hot and the bath very welcome after a day on the fells. The king size bed had a comfy mattress with a bit of a bouncy frame. Loved all the pictures and ornaments, it gave the place a feel of staying in a friend's home. Plenty of crockery etc and so would suit a family of four/five I would think. TV a bit inadequate if that is your thing (limited freeview) - loved the radio in every room. Thank you Dale House for a smashing holiday.

Great lounge (cosy open fire most nights) and liked the excellent general character of the House. Cannot complain about facilities and quality equipment in abundance, except the shower cubicle which I found to be very small (don't want to put others off reading this....I'm a big bloke). Much appreciated the starter fire fuel and wine. Very comfortable bed(just the two of us), and spacious bedroom. I guess at some stage, the bathroom and kitchen would benefit from an upgrade (my wife's bug bear was the bathroom blinds), but didn't detract too much from our enjoyment of Dale House. The utility was very useful, especially for outdoor gear and dog cleaning. Have driven through Lorton a couple of times, but first time staying there......hidden gem! We loved it's character, history, locals, (We actually got a very pleasant surprise, adult carol singers outside the door one evening), location and ease of exploring Northern Lakes, and a short drive to our favourite pub, Kirkstile Inn. Although we were fairly lucky with the weather, it would be good to return during warmer weather to enjoy the garden. A good barometer, is the fact we miss the house, village and Northern Lakes.
