Take advantage of the spacious off-road parking for two cars as you pull up outside of the property, which is located next door to the owner, before unloading your bags and stepping into the annexe to begin your holiday. Be welcomed into the traditional living/dining room, with feature exposed beams, where you can look forward to cosying up on the sofa and enjoying your favourite film on the TV as the electric fire adds warmth nearby. Whip up culinary delights in the fully-functioning, small homely kitchen before settling around the dining table to tuck-in and discuss plans for the days ahead. As the evening grows darker, retire on one of the two tastefully decorated bedrooms to catch your rest, a family room with a double and a single or a double, both of which have TV’s, perfect for those lazy Sunday mornings, and en-suite bathrooms. After a restful night, indulge in a relaxing bath with your favourite book, before joining your guests for morning coffee out in the shared garden. Grab your walking boots and explore the local village, where you will find a welcoming pub, The Oddfellows Arms, where you can treat your guests to lunch after a day of exploring the National Park, an impressive 12th-century church, a well-stocked convenience store and a local farm where you can create your own milkshakes from the fresh milk harvested on site. For a fantastic day trip, head to the city of Carlisle, which is steeped in rich history, with its super 12th-century castle which houses a regimental museum displaying Roman relics, and its medieval cathedral where you can take in the beautiful stained-glass windows and 15th-century art. Brush up on your history at the Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life or the Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery, where you can learn more about the town and its military history. Next stop is the market town of Keswick, where you can make a stop at the quirky Puzzling Place, which is home to a selection of illusion exhibits, learn more about the town’s history of pencil making at the Derwent Pencil Museum, try your hand at outdoor activities such as lazy river tubing, climbing and abseiling at Keswick Extreme, or take a boat out to the National Trust site of Derwent Island House. Hosts very welcoming and helpful with advice on where to go, what to see and do. A nice walk along the local stream (beck) down to the village pub for some great food and drink. Will definitely return. Loved it.
