For dog lovers, there are many pathways and historic features to discover from the doorstep, or just settle in for a pint in the nearby alleged ’best beer garden in Cumbria’. Calder Bridge is on the River Calder and is famed for its wonderful scenery, and an abundance of walks in nearby Wasdale. A short drive will take you to one of the most popular Cumbrian seaside villages, Seascale, perfect for a walk along the sandy beach and an ice-cream. Other nearby attractions include Muncaster Castle, where you can meet the owls, Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, a perfect day out for the children, and on a rainy day, visit the historic harbour of Whitehaven and the superb Beacon Heritage Centre and Rum Story.
