Curlew Cottage is situated close to the centre of Hawkshead and is a charming, detached bungalow sitting on a private cul-de-sac. Curlew cottage has proved to be popular with our guests all year round and has many repeat guests. Sleeping up to 4 guests, the cottage is ideal for families or couples and boasts a host of features including a cosy lounge, two well presented bedrooms, one with en suite facilities, a relaxing family bathroom and a well-equipped kitchen to make some lovely meals. There’s beautiful gardens at both the front and rear of the property meaning you can relax with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

Keen walkers will be spoilt for choice with an abundance of trails and fells right on the doorstep, whilst for cyclists the cottage is in close proximity to Grisdale forest and of course Windermere and Coniston provide are great for a little fun on the water. Hawkshead village itself has a fascinating literary history to investigate, perhaps while enjoying a drink in one of the excellent local pubs. Curlew Cottage is the perfect base from which to discover all this and experience a memorable holiday.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
