Tucked away in the popular town of Kendal, Cumbria, is this lovely, two-bedroom terrace house, Captain's Cottage. Enjoying a superb location near the Lake District National Park, with the local amenities and attractions of the historic town right on your doorstep, Captain's Cottage is a fantastic pet-friendly choice for couples or a family of four. Be welcomed into the contemporary open-plan living space, where you will find a well-equipped kitchen for rustling up your best dishes, ready to enjoy over a celebratory bottle of fizz at the dining table for four. On warmer evenings, why not head out to the rear open courtyard where you can dine alfresco? After dinner, kick-back and relax on the plush corner sofa and select a much-loved film from the Smart TV as the evening’s entertainment. Head upstairs, where you will find a well-appointed bathroom, where you can freshen up under the overhead shower or with a soak in the bath, before retiring to one of two beautifully presented bedrooms, a double and a twin, both perfect for catching up on some well-deserved rest. Explore the town, where you can test out your swing at the excellent golf club, visit the fascinating Kendal Castle, tour the Quaker Tapestry Museum and the Kendal Museum, picnic in Gooseholme Park, and treat your loved ones to a meal out at the welcoming eateries of Brewery Arts, Jintana Thai, Sapore and Comida. Continue onto Windermere, where you can try your hand at a wide variety of watersports on the famous lake, take in the incomparable views from Queen Adelaide’s Hill and Orrest Head, visit The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, and visit neighbouring Bowness-on-Windermere, where you can indulge in some fine dining at one of three Michelin Star restaurants. Further afield, you will find Ambleside, where you can visit the stunning Stock Ghyll Force and the Ambleside Roman Fort, Rydal, home to the breath-taking Rydal Cave and Rydan Mount & Gardens, and Grasmere, where you can explore the former home of William Wordsworth. All this and more awaits at Captain's Cottage.
Located on the banks of the River Kent, Kendal is often referred to as the "Southern Gateway to the Lakes" and is a historic market town with a stellar reputation for shopping. The 12th-century stone ruins of Kendal Castle, which once towered over the town, can be seen from atop a hill above the town's picturesque main street. Portraits by George Romney, a Kendal native, works by Turner and Ruskin, and other exhibitions made possible by the gallery's ties to the Tate make Abbot Hall Art Gallery well worth a visit. Limestone escarpments for easy walking offer thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills, and Morecambe Bay, and both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden are located nearby. When you're not out exploring the rest of South Lakeland or the Yorkshire Dales from your base in Kendal, you can always come back here. Kendal is a great place to stay for a vacation because it is centrally located to other attractions like the Lake District National Park, Lake Windermere, and the fascinating Quaker Tapestry at the Museum of Lakeland Life.
