Kendal town centre has plenty to see and do, with independent local shops and cafes as well as local river walks and the atmospheric ruins of Kendal Castle. Also known as The Gateway to the Lake District, this market town has easy access to the main lakes, with bus and train routes right through the heart of the national park. A day trip to the likes of Windermere (8.5 miles), Ambleside (13 miles) and Grasmere (16.5 miles) offers even more adventure, from boat rides on the lake to some of the most stunning scenery in the country.
