Becksteps Cottage is praised for its excellent location in the heart of Grasmere, with guests appreciating the convenience and the comfortable beds. The property is well-equipped, and its suitability for dogs is a plus. While some guests find it homely and perfect for their needs, others suggest it could benefit from modernisation and a refresh.
Several reviews mention issues with cleanliness, including the presence of dog hairs, dust, cobwebs, and dirty crockery. These recurring comments suggest that the property's cleanliness is below expectations for some guests.
The cottage's location is consistently praised for being central and convenient, with easy access to local amenities and attractions in Grasmere. It is considered ideal for exploring the Lake District.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, but some mention issues with light in the bedrooms and suggest that updates could enhance comfort further.
The property is well-equipped with appliances, but feedback indicates a need for maintenance, such as fixing a damaged floorboard, a problematic door hinge, and updating the decor. The lack of a mop for cleaning and issues with the TV remote are noted.

Becksteps Cottage is a traditional Lakeland cottage located in the heart of Grasmere overlooking the Grasmere Green. This is an ideal base for two couples or small family looking to discover the hidden gems of the Lake District on foot.
The front porch leads you into the lounge with dining area, here you will have space to cosy by the open fire after a day hiking the Lion and the Lamb. Head through to the well-equipped kitchen that opens out onto the courtyard with furniture, perfect for dining al fresco in the summer months. There is also a coal house and secure bike storage to the rear. Head up the traditional winding cottage staircase to find the two comfortable bedrooms, one double and one twin. The shower room is also located to the first floor.
Grasmere is world-renowned for the inspiring surrounding that moved William Wordsworth to write some of his best-loved poetry. This charming village is home to a variety of cafes, bars and eateries as well as the famous Sarah Nelson’s Grasmere Gingerbread shop. There’s a host of walks directly from the village including Fairfield, Silver How, Helm Crag and Loughrigg. Further afield you can reach the market town of Keswick which lies on the showers of Derwentwater.
Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
