Lakeside is a lovely little village resting right on Lake Windermere, with the popular Lakes Aquarium, a pier offering boat rides and cruises around the Lake, and a train station which is famous for the Furness Railway, one of Britain's oldest steam railways, running to and from Haverthwaite. Just a short walk or drive over the River Leven is the village of Newby Bridge, where there is a petrol station offering any essentials you may need during your trip, and a hotel serving food and drink, for when you fancy an evening out of the kitchen. Also a short drive away is the Lakeland Motor Museum, and in the opposite direction the Grizdale Forest offers an action packed Go Ape experience with a treetop challenge, zip lines, Segway scooters and high ropes courses. On the other side of the gorgeous lake, you can explore the beautiful towns of Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere, which both offer a number of shops, bars and restaurants, and with plenty to do and see from watersports, boat hire and golf, to museums such as The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and the Jetty Museum with stories of boats and steam, they make for a great day out. A little further afield is Ambleside, an amazing town and a popular starting point for many of the mountain and woodland routes around the Lake District.
