Private parking for 1 car. No smoking.. Set in the quiet village of Stainton and dating from 1870, this former granary enjoys beautiful views across the dales and open countryside. The Old Granary has retained much of its original charm including exposed beams and it has been furnished to a good standard with the bathroom having the benefit of a power shower, the property is well-presented to offer a relaxing and comfortable accommodation for two people from which to explore the delights of this fascinating area. In a tranquil setting with walks from the doorstep, it is a haven for bird watching and nature lovers with an abundance of wildlife in the area. Outside is a sheltered patio and visitors can enjoy use of a large garden, ideal for unwinding after a day walking or touring, or for dining al fresco on warmer days. For lovers of the outdoors a leisurely stroll can be enjoyed across the meadows from the property into the historic market town of Barnard Castle, 5 miles, which has fishing on the River Tees (permit required), a golf course, swimming pool, good choice of shops, tea rooms and restaurants, with several good country inns in the surrounding villages. The area is steeped in history and rich in culture with a range of attractions, including the famous Bowes Museum, Raby Castle, High Force waterfall and the beautiful gardens at Eggleston Hall, with woodland walks, cycle routes (hire available) and picnic areas at nearby Hamsterley Forest. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is just 5 miles away whilst the city of Durham, Beamish and the Lakes are all within an hour’s drive. Golf nearby. The Eleven Arches Kynren is also nearby and gives an epic tale of England in Bishop Auckland every summer, and also have a show paralleling a firework display, similar to the wonder of the Global Olympic Opening Ceremonies. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.
