Lavender Cottage is highly praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and ideal location for exploring Northumberland. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, cosy wood burner, and spacious bedrooms. The cottage's charm and homeliness are frequently mentioned, alongside the thoughtful welcome gifts. Some minor issues with pub proximity, Wi-Fi, and maintenance are noted, but overall experiences are overwhelmingly positive.
Guests consistently describe the cottage as 'spotlessly clean', indicating high standards of cleanliness. The property's tidiness contributes significantly to the comfort and enjoyment of the guests' stays.
The cottage is celebrated for its peaceful village setting and central location, ideal for visiting attractions and exploring the beauty of Northumberland. Some guests mention the need to drive to nearby pubs, but the location is generally seen as a positive aspect.
Comfort is a highlight, with guests finding the cottage cosy, especially with the wood burner, and the bedrooms spacious and welcoming. A few guests mention a preference for firmer mattresses, but overall, the comfort level is highly regarded.
The cottage is well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, and guests appreciate the modern amenities. Some issues are raised regarding the TV signal, garden light, and Wi-Fi, which slightly affect the score. However, the presence of a wood burner and the overall standard of the facilities are well-received.
Many reviews express gratitude for the welcome gifts, which add a touch of thoughtfulness to the guests' arrival. While these gifts are warmly appreciated, it is important to note that such gestures, though common, are not guaranteed for every stay.
Resting in the small village of Glanton in Northumberland, close to the county town of Alnwick, is Lavender Cottage, a charming and contemporary property, ideal for a couple or a group of four guests wanting to access the coast and countryside of Northumberland. Parking is available on the roadside in front of the property, where you'll see plenty of lavender in bloom as you take a few steps up and enter through the front door. The neutrally styled sitting room has soft cream carpets, lovely shutter windows and a choice of two sofas placed around the coffee table, where you can relax in front of the woodburning stove, enjoying the warmth from the fire as you switch on the Freeview TV and enjoy your favourite shows, or pick up a book from the bookcase and curl up with it as you get lost in a story. There is a dining table in the corner of the room, where you can enjoy a home-cooked meal together, lovingly prepared in the bright and airy kitchen, equipped with all of the necessary appliances you’ll need during your self-catering holiday. The family bathroom is just off the kitchen, with a shower over bath offering you the choice when it comes to getting ready for each day. Head upstairs to find two very generously-sized double bedrooms, one with an antique bed frame, shutter windows and large built-in wardrobes, either side of a feature fireplace, while the other is mostly white painted, with a feature fireplace, lovely up-cycled wardrobe and a bookcase. Outside there is a small, enclosed patio with furniture, where you can enjoy a morning coffee or a spot of alfresco breakfast. There is a pub opposite the property as well as a small shop in the village, while the county town of Alnwick offers a wider variety of amenities. Alnwick is known for its imposing castle, recognisable by many as the setting of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter film franchise, while adjoining this is The Alnwick Garden, a huge garden with the Treehouse Restaurant and a fascinating poison garden, filled with toxic plants. You are well-placed for discovering the Cheviots Hills, which straddles the Anglo-Scottish border and rests partly within the Northumberland National Park, offering fantastic hikes and spectacular views. The national park is known for its dark skies and offers excellent star gazing opportunities, as well as the manmade woodland and reservoir at Kielder Forest, along with the nature reserves of Whitelee Moor and Kielderhead. Northumberland's coastline, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is also within easy reach, with excellent walking, cycling and birdwatching opportunities as well as a host of lovely sandy beaches to choose from. You are never too far from a fantastic day out with a stay at this beautiful cottage.
The small village of Glanton is situated in the foothills of the Cheviots, surrounded by glorious Northumberland countryside. The village has a small shop and a pub, whilst a wider range of amenities can be found in nearby Alnwick. From Glanton, you can easily explore Alnwick and its imposing castle, used as the setting for Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter movie franchise, as well as the magnificent Northumberland National Park and spectacular coastline.
