The two villages of Town Yetholm and Kirk Yetholm are situated half a mile apart on either side of the River Bowmont, at the north end of the Pennine Way. Once providing a route through the hills into England, the villages are named 'Yetholm' after the Scottish 'yet', meaning 'gate' and the Anglo Saxon 'holm' or 'ham', meaning 'settlement', essentially 'place at the gate'. Both villages boast good pubs serving excellent food, small shops and a gift shop.
