Warkworth also houses the medieval ruins of Warkworth Castle, ideal for those looking to brush up on local history; continue the historic excursion by visiting Edlingham Castle riverside ruins, the Bailiffgate Museum or venture further afield for a day trip to Holy Island where you can tour the ruins of Lindisfarne Castle and Priory. All this and more awaits at Myrtle Cottage!

Amble, a busy little seaport at the mouth of the River Coquet, is a great starting point for adventures in Northumberland. Amble, once a hub for the boating industry, now boasts a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches, and coastal walks to the Hauxley Bird Sanctuary and the Druridge Bay Country Park. The harbour wall is lined with large fishing boats that bring in a bounty of seafood, including fish, prawns, crabs, and lobsters. On one side of the harbour, there is a fish centre that used to sell local fish but is now primarily used as a shellfish hatchery to replenish lobster and other shell fish populations. Coquet Island is a mile south of Amble and is an rspb reserve full of terns, puffins, and eider ducks that can be seen on boat tours of the island. Beautiful beaches, charming towns like Warkworth and Alnwick, and historic properties like Wallington Hall and Cragside, all owned by the National Trust, are all within easy driving distance.

Excellent location- its a 10 from us

Few issues to be aware of. Heating was timed snd unable to change which meant the house got cold. Used the wood burner but upstairs was left cold. Could not use bath downstairs as the bathroom was far to cold. Radiator was not sufficient. Doors to shower very small to get into. Not adequate for a medium to large person. Owner really needs to focus on outside seating area as very unappealing.

The quality of the fittings, beds, in fact everything made for a very comfortable stay. There is no exaggeration between the photographs and the reality, and I hope that we were able to leave the cottage in as fine a state as we found it.
