About this property

Staithes 1.7 miles. This incredible semi-detached cottage is in an elevated position on a cliff, with the most remarkable sea views available from almost every window inside the property. Situated within the North York Moors National Park and along the Cleveland Way National Trail, just over a mile from Staithes is Walkers Halt, a fantastic property for a family or group of keen walkers wanting to enjoy coast and countryside of North Yorkshire. Enter the property into the porch, which boasts those spectacular sea views and has hooks to hang coats and storage for shoes, as well as a convenient cloakroom with WC and basin. From here, discover the galley-style kitchen, compact but well equipped with an electric oven, Smeg fridge, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher, as well as more incredible views from the window. The sitting/dining room has two cosy armchairs to relax into, whilst you enjoy the heat from the warmth of the woodburning stove and a book from the bookcase, with a large dining table and bench seating offering enough space to fit the whole group and enjoy delicious home-cooked meals together, while attached is a small observatory with breakfast bar seating, where you can really make the most of your stunning surroundings. The main sitting room has stunning engineered wooden flooring, a large L-shaped corner sofa that can fit the whole group, so you can gather together to enjoy watching the Smart TV or make plans for the remainder of your stay, while the woodburning stove crackles in the background. Head up the carpeted staircase to find a small breakaway area with an armchair and a bookcase, where you can enjoy a quiet moment to yourself with a good book, as well as four bedrooms, a double with a handy en-suite shower room, a second double and two twin rooms, each are spacious with ample storage space and boasting incredible views from their Velux windows, all served by the family bathroom, which has a stunning roll top bath with hand held shower, as well as a separate shower cubicle. Outside the long, gated driveway offers parking for three cars, while the large, enclosed rear garden has a lawn and a patio with outdoor furniture, so you can enjoy some alfresco dining while enjoying your spectacular coastal views, as well as a path up to fantastic summerhouse. This property sits along the Cleveland Way, a fantastic national trail stretching along the coast from Helmsley to Filey, while the town of Staithes is just over a mile away, with its old harbour lined with pretty cottages and backed by high craggy cliffs, with a lovely sheltered beach, plus a selection of shops and eateries. The town has connections to Captain Cook, who was once an apprentice to a draper near the harbour, and you can learn more about him at the Captain Cook & Staithes Heritage Centre, while boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and whale watching are available and you can enjoy an Illusion Trail, that guides you around the town's network of ginnels. Up the coast, the village of Skinningrove is home to a lovely beach, as well as the Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum, while Saltburn-by-the-Sea has a beach with excellent surfing, plus a long-standing pier and you can enjoy spectacular views with a ride on the Saltburn Cliff Tramway. The popular seaside resort of Scarborough, Filey and Whitby are all easily accessible from the property, and you can venture into the North York Moors National Park for walking and cycling opportunities amidst vast heather moorland, enchanting forest, low dale, pretty villages and dramatic coastline. There is so much to see and enjoy from your doorstep; Walkers Halt is not to be missed.

Staithes is a charming seaside village with cobbled streets and back alleys, pretty houses and cottages and an old harbour, surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way, which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. The village has connections to Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the North Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is home to an rnli lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly available. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels, with trail guides available locally. A superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast and larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough, as well as the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
