Dog Friendly Cottages In Carnforth

Surrounded by National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Carnforth is a lovely town in Lancashire. Close to the coast and with plenty of stunning countryside at your doorstep, this is a great spot for a cottage holiday.

One of Carnforth's claims to fame is that its railway station was used in the film Brief Encounter. It's worth a visit while here. The history of the area and its prominence as a railway town is explored in the Visitor Center, for those who are curious. Nearby you'll also find Leighton Hall and the town itself is brimming with independent shops. For the outdoorsy among you, there is plenty to do near Carnforth. Choose from walking, climbing or abseiling. The views are stunning too.'

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Fiona - Verified booking

Location was lovely, and next door neighbour was nice.

They’re the only positives of Tiptoes Lodge. The lodge on arrival STANK of stale smoke in every room. I wasted so much of my perfume on trying to conceal it but it only helped for an hour or two. The smoke set off my asthma, and as I use a CPAP mask, I couldn’t sleep for the air being pumped directly into my lungs. The sofa recliner doesn’t work on one end, and the other end has been sat in so much that it leaves you sitting on a slant. There was rubbish like bottles, hair bobbles, glow stick etc under the sofa when we moved it round to view the TV better. There was also rubbish like wrappers and hair under the bedside table in the twin room which we moved to put the beds together in. Someone’s old socks under the twin beds. The twin beds are tiny and only suitable for children up to early teens. Beds were so squeaky that we had to tighten the bed frames to help with the noise. The dishwasher was filthy, had mouldy food in the bottom, the filter was full of old onions and peppers. Dirty water lining the bottom, so wasted a dishwasher tablet trying to clean it once I’d washed the filter out. It made the whole lodge smell of bin juice when we first opened it up. The curtains have mould on the bottom of them in the master bedroom and living area. The hot tub is a hazard in itself. No bar to fold the lid back on - we’re a couple with disabilities and this was really painful to remove and put back on as most of the handles have snapped. Once you’re in, it’s lovely but no cleaning tablets left, so it got dirtier and dirtier as the holiday went on, as no one comes to maintain it. The directions were quite vague, and trying to find the key safe is impossible to find in the dark when we checked in later in the evening. Unfortunately, Sykes cottages landline and mobile were closed so couldn’t get help as all staff had left for the evening in the main restaurant. We spent more time cleaning than we did relaxing. We checked out a day early because we couldn’t stand it anymore and checked in to a wonderful pub in Lupton to make up for the holiday. Would not recommend to anyone, especially when the owner refused to agree to any form of compensation. Sykes did their best but even with photographic evidence, it didn’t help. There are so many beautiful places to stay around this area, go anywhere else but here!

    Exiting the M6 at Junc.

35 and following the instructions from Sykes Cottages we found ourselves at a Park Site which was not Borwick Lakes. If you are travelling from the South take the second island from the M6 and NOT the FIRST as stated in the directions from Sykes Cottages. The site was pleasant with two small lakes but could be improved by proper landscaping being completed. The location of the home is really nice as it is at the end of a row of other homes so has nobody at the one side of you. Parking is very easy and convenient The accommodation is a little tight in the second bedroom for two adults - indeed a tad tight for one adult - but overall the space was enough for three of us to move around the home. The second bedroom would probably benefit from just one bed but no doubt that would deter families from booking the accommodation. The unit was well equipped and had everything that we required for a weeks stay. We arrived at 6.30pm on the site and decided to have fish and chips as a quick meal having travelled six hours to arrive at Carnforth on a busy Bank Holliday Friday - BE WARNED all fish and chip shops in Carnforth close at 7.30 on a Friday evening. We tried 3 after visiting the website for local fish and chip shops. We finished up with a ghastly chicken burger and chips from a local shop in Carnforth centre near the railway station - never ever again !!!. Good restaurants we found were the Cross Keys (Chef and Brewer, Main Road Lancaster LA2 6AU) about 4 miles from Carnforth and the Longlands Restaurant at Tewitfield (LA6 1JH) - literally 4 mins drive away. Trungs Chinese restaurant at Main Road Bolton le Sands - about 4 miles from the site is also worth visiting. There are so many places to visit near to and a little further away from Carnforth that it is a good area to stay and explore from. Three major supermarkets in Carnforth - Tesco Aldi and Booths(Waitrose of the North) ensure that you always have access to everyday fresh food and requirements. There is also a Sainsburys main store at Lancaster, not that far away at all. Overall, a very happy experience for our week in the Lake District - well just below the Lakes and therefore a little cheaper than being in the National Park area. A must visit place when in Keswick is Brysons Tearooms, pure old fashioned service and such good food.

    Lovely cottage, perfect little break.

Parked in the Market Square upon arrival and spoke to the friendly owners, Jonathan and Claire for directions. The cottage is very simple to find. The location is perfect, as it is away from the hustle and bustle of the Main Street, so no traffic noise and very peaceful for a good night's sleep. The cottage is very attractive, very clean and on 3 levels. Ground floor has a nice lounge and inglenook fireplace, with an easy to use wood burner (easier than ours anyway!) and a well equipped modern kitchen. There is also a private small yard with seating, which was a bonus, as some of the neighbouring cottages appear to have no outdoor space...or just a bench at the front. Large double bedroom and large bathroom with bath and shower on the 1st level. A further large double bedroom on the 2nd floor with fantastic views to the fells. Parking was not an issue for us. We either parked by St Mary's church or up the hill beyond the Orange Tree pub. Usually spaces free up once the day trippers have left. Kirkby Lonsdale is a lovely little market town with plenty of options for food and drinks. Tip: No 9 Restaurant has a lovely sunny courtyard and between 12.00 and 15.00 has 2 'tapas' (more Korean/Thai fusion rather than Spanish) for £10, which are large and beautifully presented. Also had superb Ribeye steak from Dales butchers just down the lane. Excellent visit to Kirkby Lonsdale overall and would both recommend and return to Back Cottage.

Hi, Directions to the lodge were a bit ambiguous, starting point was from A6 which is quite a long road.

Better starting point would have been junction 35 on the M6 especially if not familiar with the area. Finally found the lodge and pleasantly surprised how spacious and cleaned it was. Well maintained and well equipped. Site was clean and pleasing to the eye. Soon found the TV wasn’t receiving a signal for any terrestrial channels and on demand channels were limited. The TV remote didn’t work either. There were no instructions on how to hook up to the free WiFi so had to rely on using phone data to use the internet. Pointed this out to Sykes and they promised to contact owner to remedy these faults but after a couple of days said they couldn’t get hold of them so nothing was done. Good job it wasn’t anything serious! Would have helped if there were written instructions on how to operate the microwave, turn on the heating, using the hot tub and operate the TV. Also, some tips on where to eat, local attractions etc. One last whinge, the two single beds aren’t really suitable for large adults but for children up to early teens. Apart from the above, it didn’t stop us from having a nice break in the Lake District as we only used the lodge as a base in the evening. Would I use Tiptoes Lodge again? Probably not. And Sykes Cottages? The jury is still out.

The caravan is lovely, high spec, warm & comfortable with everything we needed.

Even smaller kitchen items such as a cheese grater & colander also hand soap & kitchen roll were provided which you don't always find in holiday homes. Check-in was quick and easy with the key box and the caravan is in a great location at the end of the row. There is currently a bit of a building site a few metres away, to the side of the caravan which didn't really bother us but did wake us up each morning so it may be worth mentioning this in the listing for those who are more fussy. Generally noise levels on the site were low, nice views and lots of grassy areas for the dogs to be walked and toileted, a shame not everyone picked up after their dogs but this is no bad reflection on the caravan/pitch itself. Inside, the bed and seating area is very comfy and we were always warm and cosy. The showers had great pressure, very pleasant and the whole caravan was very clean and tidy. We also appreciated the little pot of biscuits and coffee, before we'd had chance to do a shop. Overall, we had a lovely stay and would highly recommend this site and this particular caravan, we didn't want to leave and would definitely stay again in a heartbeat. Thanks very much for having us and allowing the dogs as well.
