Mill Leat is a well-received cottage in the heart of Castleton, appreciated for its comfort, cosy atmosphere, and excellent location. Guests have enjoyed the thoughtful touches, including festive decorations and welcome gifts, and have found it to be a convenient base for exploring the Peak District. While some guests have raised issues with cleanliness and maintenance, these appear to be isolated incidents, with the majority of feedback being positive.
Most guests found Mill Leat clean and comfortable, though there were a few reports of cleanliness issues such as unclean shower trays and floors. These seem to be exceptions rather than the rule, suggesting generally good standards with occasional lapses.
The cottage's location is highly praised for being central within Castleton, offering easy access to local amenities, pubs, and walks. The provision of a parking permit is also appreciated, despite some challenges with parking space availability.
Guests consistently describe the cottage as comfortable, cosy, and homely, with comfy beds and a warm atmosphere. However, some guests mentioned that the beds were too soft for their preference, which slightly affects the score.
The cottage is well-equipped with necessary amenities and some guests were pleased with the secure courtyard for dogs. However, there were comments about the need for maintenance, such as fixing a sliding door and addressing minor issues with kitchenware and garden tidiness.
Many guests mentioned thoughtful gestures such as welcome gifts and Christmas decorations, contributing to a welcoming and festive atmosphere. While these gifts are warmly received, it's important to note that such personal touches, though delightful, may vary and are not guaranteed.
This two bedroom semi-detached cottage lies in the heart of Castleton, a central location situated at the top of the Hope Valley, only a stroll away from shops and pubs. Perfect for a romantic holiday, or some time away from it all, Mill Leat is a lovely base to begin your stay, with walking country and historic attractions just waiting to be discovered. Upon entering, you will be pleasantly surprised by the ground floor layout, there is a modern shower room benefiting from its very own vanity unit, neighbored by a stylish kitchen, beautifully hand painted units. After dishing up those delicious meals, spend an hour or two snuggling up in the comfy lounge, a heart-warming place to settle down on the leather sofas, enjoying the warmth from the open fire. When it comes to a peaceful night's sleep, the fabulous double bedroom is a promising choice, complimented by bedside tables, and overhead storage cupboards, as well as more fitted wardrobes that lie adjacent. The stone fireplace represents charm and character, with a pleasant outlook over the village creating a lovely backdrop to wake up to. A delightful twin room is equally as desirable, from the soothing colour scheme to the panelled walls, and cushions, you will feel truly relaxed. Stroll outside to appreciate the enclosed courtyard, your little haven to unwind with a refreshing drink, enjoying the exposed stone surrounding the calming stream. Castleton boasts an array of little gift shops, food pubs and an excellent Visitor Centre with its small museum explaining life in the Hope Valley. The Christmas lights and festive activities are very popular with visitors during December. Nearby are the pretty villages of Edale, the start of the Pennine Way, Hope and Hathersage with its seasonal outdoor swimming pool. Enjoy a day out at Alton Towers or visit the impressive Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, also within easy reach are Buxton, Matlock Bath and Carsington Water. An excellently renovated cottage to build some memories.
