"We stayed here as part of a large family group. Nine adults and three children plus a dog. The property is plenty big enough and very comfortably furnished. The owners are nearby and ready to deal with any problems. Would recommend."

" Already planning to come back. "

" I can honestly say this was a perfect place to stay. We were the first to stay in one of the new cabins and it’s finished fantastically. High standard with a very welcoming reception. Very well positioned for days out to various locations with a peaceful and safe environment for the family. The privacy is well thought out between the lodges and it is all well maintained. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if we visit the area as rarely do you manage to stay in this country in such a wonderful location for such fantastic value. "
    Mrs Webb – 1 Aug 2019
" The downstairs bedroom had a double bed but very little space around it; it felt damp and cramped. The downstairs toilet was directly opposite the dining area which was not very pleasant at meal times. While the cottage was made private by surrounding hedges and tall trees this made for a rather closed in feeling with no view. The site is very close to a main roundabout on the A39 and 2 tall masts - these are hidden by the trees but a compromise giving some outlook would have been better. It is probably cosy in the winter but the living area seemed rather dark due to the small cottage windows. Not sure how eco-friendly the hot tub is when it is emptied onto the garden - certainly no wildlife in the pond. First time we have had to get rid of our own household rubbish; usually only have to sort recyclables. Lots of steps inside and out due to situation on steep bank; steep slope access to cottage and garden. Excellent position for exploring east side of Exmoor. "

" ! Set on grounds amongst several lodges and smaller cottages (this isn't mentioned in the description, & having read reviews before our trip this concerned us but you have total privacy and are totally undisturbed so don't be put off) the actual grounds that Shells cottage is nestled in is beautiful - exceptionally large garden area with fabulous outdoor eating space, with BBQ! Plenty of room inside too I was holidaying with my mum, sister and our families (11 in total) and couldn't fault our time there! A huge library of books available, board games & DVDs there too. We had an issue with the hot tub (our fault) but Lloyd was there immediately to rectify. Everything is of a high quality bedding/towels etc. We loved every second of our holiday and looking forward to returning next year, I would highly recommend this cottage. "

" Hot-tub was cleaned daily by the owner. We had one issue with one of the room heaters not working, I called the owner at 10 pm and he came and made it function without any delays. the shells cottage, you will get lots of privacy with no one overlooking the property. we visited blue anchor beach 15 min drive which I highly recommend otherwise we spent most of the time in the lovely cottage! "

" As it happened other properties not occupied but wouldnt like it in peak of summer months with loads of kids running wild round by shell's when you are relaxing in tub!! Shell's cottage perfect for our requirements "
    Mrs Lynch
"The kitchen was well-equipped for a gathering of 9 adults and there was plenty of seating in the lounge. The description sort of gives the impression that there is a separate dining room - this is not the case, it is open plan with the lounge which did mean 9 adults couldn’t get away from each other anywhere! However, the hot tub is huge and a perfect place for everyone to relax. Lloyd cleans and checks it every morning so it was always lovely. I would stay here again."

"On arrival and during our stay, we were greeted by Gemma, who made sure that we knew how to contact her for any reason. Lloyd also met with us several times and was also extremely helpful and informative, creating a friendly and laid-back atmosphere. We were not troubled by any other guests on site as the cottage is in a very private location. Facilities are excelent and ideal for family gatherings. This was our second stay at Shells cottage and will, hopefully, not be the last."
    Mrs Stevenson
"Beautiful cottage; very clean with everything you could need. Amazing garden and everyone loved the hot tub!"

"Came here with 9 friends to celebrate a couple of them turning 50! Wow, what an amazing place to stay. More than enough room, lovely warm & welcoming cottage. Everything you could possibly need is here. The gardens are lovely complete with hot tub & sun loungers. Gemma met us and told us all we needed to know and good places to visit in the area. Would really like to visit for new year but its already book!"

"Excellent management, spotlessly clean. Friendly and helpful welcome Great place for a large family gathering of various ages."
    Mr Tonks
"Really nice property in a lovely location and in fantastic condition.... a family group with ages ranging from 18 months to 85 years old and it suited us perfectly. If I had one criticism, there were only 5 wine glasses, and the property is for 12 people... but im really digging deep for this little issue... All in all a great property with a fantastic hot tub that seated 7/8 easily.... Highly recommended,"
    Mr Milton
"Excellent weekend spent in a lovely cottage amid splendid setting, would thoroughly recommend."

Cottage is very well appointed - 6 bedrooms, great size and well appointed kitchen,, dining and lounge facilities. Lovely garden although we didn't use it much due to the weather! All loved the near new hot tub. Our only complaint was the bed was too soft for our liking in our room. Would highly recommend for a family holiday"

"We booked a week to celebrate our parents Golden Wedding Anniversary and we were over the moon. The cottage was spacious and well appointed and the location is ideal for a family ranging from 2 to 72. We would all recommend the cottage to a group between 6 and 12. The hot tub was a real treat!!"
    - Johnny704, November 2014
"This place is fabulous the pictures do not do it justice at all. The bedrooms are spacious clean and the place is well equipped. Hot tub was a luxury although do watch your step when getting out and into the kitchen can become a little dangerous. There was a BBQ outside although we didn't have the weather for it! Plenty to do around and if you want to relax this is the place to do it as it's very quiet and serene. Thank you to the owners for such a pleasant place to stay we hope to do it again x Williams family x"

"Do not be put off by the holiday lodges as you arrive. Once you get down the hill to Shells cottage it is lovely and private. The garden is large and interesting and includes a little building with a toilet and sun loungers stored in it plus a pond and water feature fountain. At the bottom of the garden is a pergola with two large picnic benches and a barbecue. There is another table outside the back door next to the hot tub. Inside the house the dining / living area is spacious with a lovely wooden floor a big dining table and comfortable sofas books and games. Great kitchen with small old fashioned table. Bedrooms: Upstairs Three double one twin and one bunk. Furnishings a little dated in some rooms but all had good quality white bed linen. All the bedrooms lacked a chair and decent mirrors. The downstairs double bedroom is small with the bed against the wall possibly better suited to one person. There are two bathrooms upstairs one with bath with shower over and another with just a shower. These are better than the picture and the shower room is not really en suite as advertised. Despite minor criticisms this house is great for a family holiday as there is lots to do in the area and the house and garden are really spacious."

"Shells cottage is lovely and clean and very well equipped. Local takeaway delivers and so do tesco. Not overlooked and lovely garden for the dogs. We were left alone but owners at the end of the phone if needed. A very relaxing place that is perfect for family celebrations or friends get together. I will definitely return."
    - Mr Tippett, November 2015
"Fantastic, spacious cottage in a great location. Interior is exactly how a cottage like this should be fitted out. Lovely big kitchen, sizeable bedrooms and the lounge room with fireplace is absolutely outstanding. Hot tub is a dream, though being able to set the temperature would be a benefit. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends!"
    - Mrsheathershaw, November 2015
"A year has gone by and the same group of friends enjoyed a great weekend away in this lovely property. Gemma looked after our minor needs very well and we were comfortable and warm with plenty of room for all of us. Our only small gripe is the taps in the kitchen turn on the wrong way and we all had an unexpected shower on a regular basis. Also please note there is no wi-fi at this property."
    - Mrs Waterfield, December 2015
"The Cottage was very well equipped, spacious and presented well. It was a pleasure to stay there."
    - daisydora123, July 2016
"I had originally booked such a large cottage as I'm a foster carer and didn't know for certain how many rooms I would need. We only used four of the six bedrooms in the end, but we were glad of the extra space. The cottage is big enough for 12 people and would represent great value for such a large party. It is a beautiful old thatched cottage set in a lovely garden with a BBQ and seating area, pond, ornamental fountain and another seating area outside the kitchen door. As you approach the cottage you pass some modern, wooden chalet type cottages which seem a bit close. But don't be put off as they can't be seen from Shells cottage and we didn't hear any noise from the neighbour's despite the fact most evenings meant BBQs and hot tubs. The cottage is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. They supplied tea towels, washing up liquid and dishcloths (all the things I usually forget to pack). The lounge had a lovely reading area around the corner next to huge book shelves covered in books and games. All the bedrooms were made up to a high standard and came complete with white fluffy towels. There was a washing machine and washing line (pegs included) which meant I didn't end up taking cases of dirty clothes home. I had preordered an online grocery order to arrive a few hours after we did which was great as it meant we didn't have to bring lots of food etc. The local takeaway also delivered pizzas, kebabs, burgers etc. The highlight for the two girls was the hot tub. Although we were lucky enough to stay during what may be the only hot week of the summer, they still felt the need to spend as much time as they could in there. Gemma arrived soon after we did to show us how to use it and let us know she was around if we needed anything. She arrived each morning to check the hot tub, but wasn't intrusive at at. As I mentioned, we stayed during the very warm week in July and whilst everyone else seemed to be complaining that it was too warm at night to sleep, we were fine. The thatched roof keep the cottage lovely and cool and offered respite to our poor big dog with her thick coat. One of the bedrooms is in the ground floor. Although the cottage doesn't have level access for a wheel chair, once inside it is fairly suitable for people who can't manage stairs very well. However, there is only a toilet with hand basin downstairs so no access to a bathroom. I would definitely recommend this cottage and we are considering a return trip with friends next year."
    - Mrs Spring, August 2016
"The cottage was lovely and very roomy for the number of people it was advertised for. It was also very well equipped in terms of cooking and catering facilities - far better than some properties we have rented in the past. The white goods equipment provided were also excellent. It would have been useful to have had some trays provided - it was a long way to go backwards and forwards to the barbeque area from the kitchen especially with hot food. Although I had taken a large supply of toilet paper to the property it was disappointing not to have had soap dispensers in any of the bathrooms. We had to go out and buy these as soon as we arrived. We left these all behind and hope they were there ready for the next guests. (Perhaps a list of basicic items such these, could be provided in information near to arrival time - apologies if I missed this). The beds were comfortable although in one of the bedrooms the wardrobe could not be used as it smelt very musty and this permeated the whole room - possible coming from an outside wall!! Overall though, apart from the above, the house was lovely. The onsite Manager was very welcoming and looked after us very well."
    - Mrsheathershaw, November 2014
"We have been going away as a group of 12 adults for 12 years now, always to the same place, which was sadly unavailable due to a landslip. I found this cottage and we were all delighted with what we found. Shells Cottage is very spacious with plenty of room for all. The beds are very comfortable as are the sofas. The kitchen has everything you might need (apart from some large serving spoons) and is a pleasure to cook in. Everywhere was very clean and Lloyd and his wife were very helpful with minor problems. The first step off the decking could do with a luminous strip as 3 of us fell off as it was not well lit. Hot-tub was well used. Thanks very much for a lovely break in great surroundings...the Howler Monkeys calling in the morning was a surreal sound until we realised they were living nearby ! The photos on the web-site do not do the property justice and for info we had a disabled person in our group and he managed very well although the property is not wheelchair friendly."
    - Mrs Beckett, August 2016
"Great holiday, great cottage. However given its setting the owners could do much more for the environment recycling etc."
    - Miss Hackett, September 2016
"We had a fantastic week at Shells Cottage. The cottage was clean, well equipped and the grounds were beautiful, including a large private garden with barbecue and plenty of seating for a large party. The hot tub is great and the water was checked everyday. There are other holiday lodges on the grounds but you never feel overlooked. This is a perfect cottage for a group getaway in the countryside, and is in a great location for exploring West Somerset and Exmoor."
    - Mrs Notley, November 2016
"Very comfortable cottage, met all our needs for a family celebration. Hot tub was a great novelty. We will have to return to the area as there were so many things we didn't have time for or because the weather was too cold, windy and damp."

"Lovely warm cottage, great stay. Sleeps 12. Very clean cottage with lovely Gardens over looking the countryside. Hotub cleaned daily. Cant wait to stay again"
    - A FlipKey verified reviewer, November 2012
"We had a fantastic family week in Shells Cottage, this cottage is perfect for families. The party consisted of us, our two children and partners and five granddaughters. The cottage accommodated us well, and the surrounding areas were a delight for the children, we discovered a play park at the end of the footpath by the cottage. My only criticism would be a lack if information of the local area in the cottage."
    Mrs Hunter-hadley, Staffordshire
"It was absolutely perfect, we could not have asked for a nicer property. The bedding and towels were lovely, clean and fresh. The bathrooms and kitchen were spotless. Thank you. "

"Ample space for our family of 10. Lovely towels and bedding. Well equipped throughout. Only one drawback, the wardrobe in one of the double bedrooms (extreme left next to Shower room) could not be used as it smelt extremely mouldy and had to be kept tight shut. Could have caused an asthma problem if a vulnerable person used that room. Needs a new wardrobe."
    - Mrs Shaw, October 2018
"Plenty of space for the whole family. We even managed to arrange the weather so a lovely family holiday. The house was very cosy so would make a good winter venue as well."

The attention to detail was excellent and the hot tub was a welcome luxury at the end of the day."

"Everything as advertised. Ample space for our family of 10.
    - Mr Bynon, October 2019
"...perfect for family get togethers or a break with friends."
    - Mr Wilsher, November 2019

Hot tub is a dream, though being able to set the temperature would be a benefit. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends! "

"We had a fabulous week at Shells Cottage. The setting is private and the owners leave you to enjoy your stay, but are at the end of the phone if needed. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you need. Tesco deliver, as do the local Indian takeaway, which meant we could all relax - and who couldn't in this lovely cottage."

" It was an ideal property for us with 3 separate but very much amalgamated families, with a very cosy lounge and wood burner. The cottage was well laid out, very warm and welcoming, including a Christmas tree and some other decorations, something to play our Christmas CDs and DVDs on and plenty of space to house all the Christmas presents. The hot tub was a hit with the teenagers and watching the deer from the property in the adjoining field was an added bonus. We were able to order our Turkey from home and pick it up from the butcher in Williton, as recommended by the owner, who could not have been more helpful. We would highly recommend the cottage. "
