About this property

1 Willow Cottages is a charming Edwardian semi-detached property, set back behind a grassy bank in a village green style setting on a delightful street a short walk from the centre of the village of Freshwater. Resting at the western tip of the Isle of Wight within walking distance from Freshwater Bay, Totland Bay and Colwell Bay, the magnificent Tennyson down with views potentially out to Cherbourg, and the Needles, this cottage promises a relaxing getaway or adventure-filled family retreat. After a busy day exploring the area, return to the contemporary style property, oozing an atmosphere of tranquility, and benefiting from a lovely west-facing garden for summer alfresco dining. Snuggle up in the cosy sitting room with your favourite film playing, taking advantage of the Smart TV with Netflix and other services. Meander on through into the kitchen, equipped with a range of modern appliances so you can cook up hearty family feasts. Adjacent is the conservatory, an inviting spot to enjoy your home cooked meals for up to four, or head to the dining room for a more formal setting for six people. Upstairs is occupied by three bedrooms, including two doubles and a bunk bedroom, perfect for younger guests. Open the patio doors and discover a lovely terrace space with garden, flourishing with a plethora of exotic plants that exudes a tropical feel to the outside. There is also lockable bike storage which is a welcome addition to those with bikes. Within a short walk are a selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants to suit all needs and tastes, as well a great local fishmonger, butchers, bakery, two supermarkets and a range of other shops. For those active members of the group, the West Wight Sports Centre and Indoor swimming pool is on the doorstep, as well as the magnificent high chalk cliffs which offer some superb vistas. Elsewhere in the area is The Needles attraction, where younger guests will be thrilled with traditional games, the interactive 4D cinema experience and iconic chairlift taking you to the needles rock and views of the coloured sands. In the summer months, head down to the delightful, sleepy Freshwater Bay, hosting one of the most picturesque beaches in the Isle of Wight, or out to Totland Bay for one of the best sundowner bars in the country. A welcoming base in this delightful part of the Isle of Wight.

Freshwater is situated at the western tip of the Isle of Wight and consists of Freshwater Village and Freshwater Bay. Freshwater village offers a good selection of small independent shops, cafes and the West Wight Sports Centre and Indoor Swimming Pool. The magnificent high chalk cliffs, rolling downs and delightful beaches at Freshwater Bay and nearby Compton Bay attract many visitors and surfers all year round. The renowned Freshwater Bay Golf Club, which overlooks the English Channel has stunning coastal sea views from most tees and offers a superb day out for golfers of all abilities, whilst the area is a haven for birdwatchers, cyclists and walkers with many wonderful walks to be enjoyed not only on West Wight but across the entire Isle of Wight criss-crossing over a much varied island landscape. Locally, Afton Down (the location of the famous 1970 Isle of Wight Music Festival), and Tennyson Down are the most popular walks. At the foot of Tennyson Down is the Dimbola Museum and Photographic Galleries. The Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay with its coloured sand cliffs and chairlift to the beach is just south west of Freshwater, plus a little further afield on the north coast of the Isle of Wight is the premier yachting centre of Cowes. Osborne House (the former home of Queen Victoria) is located at East Cowes. The nearby Farringford Hotel on the edge of Freshwater Bay was once the home of the British Poet Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and many notable poets, authors and painters have been attracted to the area of West Wight over the years. With the seaside town of Yarmouth close by with its busy harbour and pier, shops, inns, eateries and impressive Tudor castle, this is an ideal base for an enjoyable holiday.

There was also tea, coffee, milk and wine when we arrived which was a lovely welcome! House is very well located near shops, coffee shops, takeaways and restaurants. Beach about a 20 minute walk away which was great our children and dog really enjoyed this! There is no allocated parking but it was never a problem and managed to park outside the house every day. There is also side access to the garden with an outside tap and hose which is perfect to rinse muddy wellies and paws!

The cottage itself is presently beautifully, and care has clearly gone into both its decor and facilities, from lovely smelling bed sheets to all the kitchen Utensils we needed, it's clear the owners are invested in their guests enjoying their stay. The owners level of communication was perfect, we never met them and they didn't encroach on our holiday, but they were in contact with us via text and every time we spoke, they provided a nugget of advice that added to our holiday. The house itself contains great 'local' knowledge and advice to help you make the most of your stay, with lots of restaurant recommendations as well as comments on the things to do on the island. While I was initially concerned about the fact we had to park on the road, I'll repeat the comments of previous guest - it really is a quiet road and we always managed to park outside the house. Finally the garden and conservatory were just perfect. My daughter had fun exploring and we were able to relax knowing neither she nor our little dog were able to get out as it really is completely enclosed. I really cannot recommend Willow Cottage enough!

We had a very pleasant stay in a well equipped cottage that felt immediately like home. A gorgeous enclosed garden great for our dog and sensibly stocked with soft plants ensuring it’s safe for children or dogs. A lovely surprise bottle of wine awaited us on our arrival. Thank you! We particularly enjoyed the conservatory as a place to sit, enjoy the view of the garden and unwind. What a great location too. The best part of the island with super walks and a gym a short walk away, which was used a lot by our teenaged son. Very attentive host to answer questions and prepare us for arrival. Highly recommended.
