The Smithy is a charming, Grade II listed, terraced holiday cottage and is situated in the square of the picturesque village of Chilham, a Tudor square surrounded by 15th century timber framed houses, with views of Chilham Castle. Chilham is on the North Downs National Trail and the ancient Pilgrim’s Way to Canterbury, in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The property is within walking distance of the beautiful, peaceful countryside, including the Kent Downs, woodland, lakes and orchards. There are excellent walks from the cottage to Kings Wood (1,500 acres), where King Henry viii hunted deer, and to Godmersham Park, visited by Jane Austen. Numerous other walks are nearby in the Stour Valley and Crundale Downs. In the village there are two pubs, a train station (short walk away and with direct trains to London, Ashford, Canterbury and Ramsgate), bus stop (services to Canterbury and Ashford) and a post office. Groceries and fruit and vegetables can be purchased from nearby farm shops. Plenty of parking spaces are available in the nearby free car park (3-minute walk). The cathedral city of Canterbury is 6 miles away. There is easy access to many of Kent’s attractions, including gardens, castles, coast, nature reserves and historic old towns, for example, Sissinghurst Gardens, Leeds and Dover castles, Chatham historical dockyard, Whitstable, Faversham, Sandwich, Romney Marsh, Walmer and Rye. Shop 1/2 mile, pub 100 yards, restaurant 1/4 mile.
