A complimentary welcome hamper will be awaiting you on your arrival containing milk, tea, fresh coffee, bread, butter, eggs, juice, wine and cheese, along with other essential items to prepare a light snack or breakfast. There may be some regional variations.

Lying in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Shippen and The Manger are two historic cottages at Wellands near Axminster at the Devon, Somerset and Dorset borders a few miles from the Jurassic Coast. Both properties have a remarkable elevated position offering panoramic views stretching several miles to the north and south and across the Yarty Valley with its pattern of small irregular fields and copses. The cottage is enveloped by accessible woodlands, apple orchards, and farmland.

After travelling along winding, tree-lined lanes and down a long drive, you’ll find a spacious parking area. Both properties are host to a wildlife; deer, badger, rabbits, and a huge variety of birds and moths – 40 species were recorded on one June evening. This Dark Sky area is a revelation for town-based star-gazers. A bluebell wood and river access with a salmon ladder and weir pool are within a kilometre’s stroll.

Airy and open-planned, with mainly level accesses, the Shippen is designed for ease, and has been described as very child friendly.
