Head out to the garden for a BBQ when the weather’s on your side and dine alfresco; the children can play in the shared play area or walk the dog in the exercise paddock while you wait for the food to grill.
Pack a picnic and head to Barnstaple (15 miles) where you can access the 108-mile traffic-free Tarka Trail and hire bicycles if you prefer not to walk. Barnstaple’s Pannier Market is also a brilliant place to pick up local produce and souvenirs. Sample the honey on a tasting tour at Quince Honey Farm (5 miles) or watch the glass blowing at Dartington Crystal (16 miles). But if you’re craving a picturesque North Devon beach, head to stunning Saunton Sands (23.5 miles) for a great day out.
