Dog Friendly Cottages In Woolacombe

Think three miles of beautiful coastline, fabulous beach facilities and the drama of Exmoor and you’ve got Woolacombe, an idyllic part of North Devon and a top destination for a dog friendly cottage holiday. You’ll find lots of excellent holiday cottages in Woolacombe, offering all the luxury and convenience of your own private hideaway; ideal for a couples retreat, a big family trip, or a just a spur of the moment weekend away.

Woolacombe beach is an award-winning stretch of sand, popular with tourists – and increasingly surfers – but not so popular as to lose its relaxing charm, even out of season. This picturesque destination is the perfect spot for a cottage holiday, with many Woolacombe cottages enjoying amazing sea views or idyllic rural locales. If you’re looking for accommodation that’s close to amenities, you’ll find several in or near to Woolacombe village.

Things to do on a Woolacombe cottage holiday

Woolacombe’s biggest draw is its dog friendly award winning beach. This three-mile strip of gorgeous sandy coastline is a popular spot for surfers and water sports enthusiasts. Like other resorts on the South Coast, Woolacombe is visited by surfers all year round. If you’re into surfing – or looking to hire a board and give it a go – Woolacombe Surf Centre is definitely worth stopping by.

While you could spend your holiday riding the waves, Woolacombe has plenty more going on out of the water too, making it a great choice for a family holiday. The whole region boasts some stunning natural landmarks, for instance, you could head out by boat to Lundy Island, a dramatic spot inhabited by all sorts of wildlife, including grey seals that you can see all year round.

Woolacombe and the surrounding area offers tourist attractions galore, including Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park and Borough Farm, where you can catch a falconry show. For thrill-seekers who get bored of ‘hanging ten,’ there’s the Milky Way Adventure Park, full of white-knuckle rides and located in the nearby town of Bideford

Be free to enjoy your next holiday on your own terms, choose a cottage in idyllic Woolacombe and make some great memories. Whether you’re looking for pet-friendly accommodation or perhaps something with a pool, you’re bound to find the perfect property.

What our customers say about their holidays

Overall a very lovely holiday but there were a few issues I’d like to share with you: Firstly, the parking is very tight and the lane the house is on makes it even harder to park in your spaces.

You can get 3 cars in, but it’s very snug. However it was nice to go out and know you had a parking space to return to so it relieved a lot of stress. The double bedroom on the middle floor that shares the main bathroom did not have a wardrobe? It had drawers but no hanging space which is a little strange for a double bedroom. The amenities were good; a little disappointing there’s nothing in the information book on how the cooker (induction top) works as it’s all digital and there were no hoover attachments so cleaning wasn’t the easiest task! There was ample cutlery, glasses, crockery but there were 2 Pyrex dishes and 2 baking trays provided - this is definitely not enough when cooking for 12 people. Luckily I brought my own stuff, large oven dishes, baking trays, roasting dishes, saucepans (must be induction this) and frying pans and we’d have been in trouble without them! And the island in the kitchen makes the working space very limited so only 2-3 People can be in the kitchen at one time. There is a large pantry/larder which you can store all your dry goods in, which was ideal but the fridge is very small for a house that sleeps 12 people. Seating is also abit of an issue as 12 cannot fit around the dining table easily, 10 is a squeeze. There isn’t enough seats in the lounge if you all want to sit together, nor outside. We tried to contact the number provided on the email confirmation as instructed for preferences (zip linked beds) on a number of occasions and simply got no response so that didn’t give us a lot of confidence for emergencies? The bathrooms were very modern and plenty of hot water which was brilliant as after the beach or a coastal walk everyone could have a shower without any worries! The location of the house was good and was only a short walk to the camp site shop, pubs and local shops which were ideal. The Chichester arms did lovely food, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal there. The house is positioned well for coastal walks, but the steps to rockham beach have been eroded by the sea so it’s not reachable, but woolacombe is a 30-40 min stroll away (abit tougher on the way back!!) so not too bad! There are beaches closer but we had dogs with us so had to choose the dog friendly ones. As I said, overall a lovely stay with brilliant company and the house was ideal for what we wanted and for the price we paid for it in September. Personally I don’t think it meets expectations for the mid-summer months prices being asked for it, but that’s my opinion.

Overall good apartment, not really suitable for our dogs (too many outside fire escape steps).

New bed, great bath towels. Balcony view fantastic. This made the flat (although could do with a good old clean and paint!) accessed from bedroom. Did find empty crisp packet and dirty cutlery in drawer. Dated bathrooms and kitchen decor but perfectly clean and fit for purpose. Except need new hairdryer and felt there was too much junk in the wardrobe alongside our clothes. Needs to be more separate. Completely separate cupboard. Made it feel cluttered. Cupboards very full in kitchen too. Should probably be cleared out a bit. Too much crockery and extra equipment. Loved our holiday and enough warning was given re steps but I do think a photo of the steps would help. I would say price point is just about right for decor, cleanliness and steps access. Great views - this made the holiday. BEWARE I did read about there being stairs but there really are so many! I'm not keen on heights and as they were outside the flat (aside from the last set that are internal) I felt vulnerable. It's the fourth flat up. Our 2 greyhounds were very hesitant on the outside fire escape stairs (I did take a chance on this). Not great when they were rained on. 3 sets. On the 15 min walk to the bay: the stiles are high and stone (keep sheep in) and the second style impassible because of steepness for our dogs. Would have been dangerous for us to lift them and make it over so we couldn't do that walk. Main road and B road has no pavement so we had no choice but to use the car. I did find a good walk to mortahoe and twichenen out of the camp and turn right. High up so great views. Be aware this flat is almost within a next door caravan site (you drive through this site to get to the flat) and below the flat is the astro turf for sports so regularly busy with activity so if looking for a quiet spot - this is not it. It's not overly intrusive but it is high on activity. Sunday night cold shower? First 2 nights fine. Husband had to look at thermostat. Outside balcony lights not working.

This lovely ground floor apartment was in a great location. The village of Mortehoe was small and beautiful with Woolecombe only being a 20 minute coastal walk down the road. Beach break had so much to offer and was airy and light. The open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen were great, especially with the bifold doors. The costal sea theme ran right through it with colours pictures and accessories. The lovely sofa had throws on it to cover previous stains which was rather sad. The curtains did not fit the 2 windows and vertical blinds to match the other lounge windows would have been betterEspecially across the main front door as this was all glass (which I loved) but left no privacy from the main driveway and other guests being able to see straight in especially at night when lights were on. The kitchen was well equipped but the crockery and cutlery were a bit of a mish mash and did not match some were even chipped. The bathrooms were spotless and the rainfall showers were wonderful. The 3 bedrooms again were light and airy with 2 having doors that led into the garden. The 3rd had a door but this opened onto the main door.. The rooms were of a good size and offered ample storage space. The hot tub was wonderful and it was so clear but the temperature could do with increasing.Sadly the outside patio area had a few wobbly and cracked flags and no comfortable seating only 8 hard chairs which seemed bazaar. (2 sun loungers were brought 2/3 into our holiday but again didnt give the requirement needed). A cane suite would have been perfect as other apartments seemed to have this. There was insufficient lighting outside and non at the back which meant using the hot tub at night was very difficult. All in all we had a wonderful holiday made even better by the beautiful weather and we would definitely return.

The cottage was lovely, great location and really nicely finished.

We did have a couple of minor niggles which could easily be sorted out. These were: (1) The pillows were really uncomfortable - they were lumpy!! A few decent pillows would have made all the difference (2) There were no trivets or mats to place hot items from the oven on - the work surfaces in the kitchen were lovely and you wouldn’t want them to be ruined - we resorted to using several tea towels to put hot things on. (3) As the house can accommodate up to 12 and with the current lockdown restrictions there really was not sufficient kitchen equipment to cook for multiple people - there needs to be larger pans and more baking trays as an absolute minimum. Having read a similar review I took a couple of my own large pans. (4) the small garden area was lovely but the garden table and chairs only sits 6 - again not practical for a larger group to be able to eat / socialise outside. A BBQ would also have been really nice. (5) The parking is extremely tight - it would be easier to park if a part of the wall was taken down so that it was easier to get in and out of the parking . We were also very lucky that the other parking spots were not occupied - if everyone was there you just would not be able to park. All in all though a lovely place to stay and I would recommend it.

From the minute you walk in, this cottage oozes charm and is very welcoming.

There is everything you need (and more) for a perfect holiday. Our group of adults ranged from 20 through to 80 and the accommodation suited all. Travelling with two dogs, means the list of boxes we need to tick is quite long and this cottage fulfilled all our requirements. The tiled floors, doggie extras and the totally enclosed garden made it the best dog friendly cottage we’ve ever stayed in. The location is idyllic - so peaceful with stunning views out to sea from the 1st/2nd floor bedrooms even though you are on the main strip for camp sites etc. The garden is lovely to sit in and soak up the tranquility that surrounds you along with the hot tub which made a lovely evening watching the sun go down....bliss! This is the place to stay if you want total rest and relaxation it is relatively close to beaches, just a bit of a trek down/up hill not for the oldies but plenty of places to park at the beach too, places of interest and amenities, making it an ideal property for everyone. Would return with no hesitation. We all had a fabulous stay - the weather helped with top temperatures of 25 degrees. You forget how nice it is to stay in the UK for a vacation and how beautiful it all is. Must remember that once we all go back to some kind of normal in the future.
