Meadow Brook Cottage is highly praised for its idyllic setting, beautiful gardens, and tranquil surroundings. Guests enjoy the proximity to local attractions and the lovely village of Stoke Gabriel. The outdoor space, including a stream and terraces, is particularly appreciated. While some minor cleanliness and maintenance issues are noted, the overall experience is one of comfort and relaxation in a picturesque Devon location.
Most guests found the cottage to be clean and tidy, contributing to a pleasant stay. However, a few guests mentioned issues such as dog hairs and unwashed dishes upon arrival, which suggests room for improvement in this area.
The location is consistently lauded for its beauty, tranquillity, and convenience for exploring South Devon. The proximity to local amenities and attractions, along with the natural setting next to a stream, makes it a favourite among guests.
Guests generally find the cottage comfortable and cosy, with a relaxing atmosphere enhanced by the stream. However, some guests noted the main bed's discomfort and the steep steps to the cottage, which could affect the comfort level for some visitors.
The cottage is well-equipped and guests are pleased with the facilities, including outdoor settings and a summer house. There are mentions of minor maintenance issues like light fittings and a cooker problem, but these do not seem to detract significantly from the overall experience.

This 18th century attached cottage is set alongside a brook beside a hedgerow lane one mile from Stoke Gabriel. In a peaceful location and with country character, this is charming accommodation for small families and couples. Head down the steps to the front door and into the well equipped kitchen with its flagstone floor and old fashioned pantry attached. You can prepare meals from scrumptious Devon produce to enjoy at the table in the sitting room, a snug and cosy room with a wood burning stove, comfy seating and a window seat. At the end of the day, climb the stairs to the two bedrooms which both have tranquil views over the brook with its wild ducks and kingfishers to spot. You can hang your clothes in the little dressing room which also doubles as a handy room for a cot. Outside is your pretty garden rambling over several levels, with raised lawns (steps up, care needed) a terrace for eating al fresco beside the brook, a seating area within a wall for sheltered barbecues and seats in a small summer house on one of the lawns, so you have plenty of choice of sunny places to sit quietly with a coffee or a good book. If you feel like a wander, head to Stoke Gabriel on the ¾ mile of footpath which wends beside the stream and takes you to the village pubs, shops and restaurant. Here in the village you can catch crabs from the quay or go boating on the creek. For beaches, Torbay has a wide choice, including fun nostalgic seaside amusements. For exploring interesting old towns, catch the car ferry to Dartmouth or go to Totnes beside the River Dart. History buffs will love Coleton Fishacre and Agatha Christies old home at Greenway, both now managed by the National Trust. Meadow Brook Cottage is in an ideal location for discovering the delights of the South Hams.
Positioned alongside a picturesque creek of the River Dart in South Devon, Stoke Gabriel is a delightful unspoiled village, a firm favourite for many visitors who come for its beautiful tranquil riverside setting
