Bere Alston is a modest Devon village located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty between the rivers Tavy and Tamar. The community was previously a bustling harbour for tin from Dartmoor. Morwellam Quay, just upstream from Bere Alston on the Tamar, is a little dock where half the world's copper passed through in the 1860s and is today a famous visitor attraction presenting the tale of copper mining throughout history. Trains travel between Bere Alston and Plymouth over the scenic Tamar Valley line, which follows the river for much of the way.
