Also a number of famous Dartmoor sites are a short walk or drive away. Reached by a drive up the side of a moor, Tavistock has a good range of shops and some renowned restaurants and pubs, while the slopes of Dartmoor are on the edge of the town and are very popular with walkers. Tavistock is a delightful, award-winning market town on the River Tavy, on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park. The town offers an indoor pannier market, a number of shops, and a choice of pubs, bistros and restaurants. Wonderful walking and cycling can be enjoyed in the area, plus there are National Trust properties nearby. Within driving distance is the city of Plymouth, Torbay, and the North Cornwall coast.
