Old Cross Cottage in Dorset is a characterful property that has charmed many guests with its warmth, well-stocked kitchen, and cosy atmosphere. The property's quirkiness and original features have been appreciated, and the welcome pack has been a delightful touch. While some guests noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance, the majority found the cottage comfortable and well-equipped for a pleasant stay.
Guests have generally found the cottage to be clean upon arrival, with some noting it as 'extremely clean'. However, a few reviews mentioned the need for a deeper clean, with reports of dust and cobwebs. The mixed feedback suggests good general cleanliness with room for improvement in thoroughness.
The location is well-regarded for its quiet charm and proximity to the Jurassic Coast. Guests have enjoyed the local village and nearby beaches, making it an ideal spot for those looking to explore the area. The narrow country lanes and parking have been noted, but overall the location is seen as a positive feature.
Many guests have praised the comfort of the cottage, mentioning warm duvets, lovely towels, and a cosy atmosphere. Some guests, however, found the beds uncomfortable and the property creaky due to its age. The overall sentiment is one of comfort, with a few detractors.
The cottage is appreciated for its well-equipped kitchen and the variety of games and books available. However, there have been criticisms regarding the need for maintenance, issues with hot water and heating, and the garden's location across the road. While the facilities meet most needs, there is a clear need for some updates and repairs.
The welcome pack has been consistently mentioned as a thoughtful gesture, contributing to a positive experience. While such gifts have been well-received, it is important to note that they are a courtesy and may not be a standard inclusion for every stay.

Referred to as the capital of the Marshwood Vale, Whitchurch Canonicorum is an attractive mix of farms and cottages. Whitchurch Canonicorum is where you can find the very ancient church of St. Candida and the Holy Cross. It is unique in being the only parish church in England to contain the remains of an ancient saint. There is a well nearby, also named after the Saint, which is also rumoured to have similar healing properties. The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns.
