The Property

So there's no surprises (particularly, when, like us, you have a large greyhound in tow), here's what you will be able to enjoy at the Dog House:

  • Allocated parking on the main cottage drive, accessed off Mill Lane, Edge Bridge, Mere. We have an EV charger, which you can book at a separate pre-paid cost.
  • Fully enclosed patio, with table and chairs.
  • Secure enclosed bike storage for two bikes on the driveway, protected by a Ring security system.
  • One upstairs bedroom with a double bed. We provide an extremely comfortable Simba mattress and all bed linen and towels.
  • Lounge and dining area with comfortable sofa, TV (with access to apps via your own subscriptions) and dining area.
  • Kitchen with small fridge/freezer, kettle, microwave, sink and essentials, such as mugs, cutlery, plates, bowls and glasses. It's perfect for making breakfast or a light lunch, but we would recommend eating out in the evening to sample the culinary delights of Mere and beyond.
  • We provide tea, coffee (instant and a V60 with 01 filters if you prefer to bring your own ground coffee), sugar, salt and pepper.
  • Shower room, with shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided We welcome dogs of all shapes and sizes, with a dog bed and a throw for the sofa provided.
  • Dogs can roam free in the cottage and in the fully enclosed patio area. We just ask that you clean up after your dog and ensure that they have a good time!
  • Unfortunately, due to the age and quirky nature of the Dog House and main cottage garden, we have been unable to make the property fully accessible, including for wheelchairs. Please do note that there is a small set of stairs in the garden and a second set of stairs up to the first floor bedroom.

    Local Area

Mere is a small, historic town in Wiltshire, located close to the borders of Somerset and Dorset.

Easily accessible by the A303, you will see the beautiful South West Wiltshire Downs (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) as you enter the Town. This is where we always breathe a sigh of relief as the landscape is both peaceful and expressive.

Mere Town Centre is within a 5 minute walk of the Dog House. Facilities include a Co-op, post office, tea room, museum, three takeaways, pharmacy, antiques dealer and other shops.

    Highly recommended are visits to:

  • Sprout & Flower (in the main square), a deli and florist, serving takeaway coffee
  • Hillbrush shop and restaurant
  • MillyMoo's vending machine, including local brownies, cheese and butter (off Dark Lane, a short walk from the Dog House)
  • One of three pubs; The Walnut Tree (closest to the Dog House), The George or The Butt of Sherry
  • Yapp Brothers wine merchants (just East of the main square)
  • Further Afield

Within 2 miles, you will find the beautiful National Trust Stourhead House and Garden. There is also a walk up to King Alfred's Tower, where you can grab a coffee and cake at The Alpine Coffee Co.

If you are an avid golfer, there is a driving range at Two Counties Farm, on the Southern edge of Mere.

Other lovely days out include Longleat, Old Wardour Castle (English Heritage) and towns such as Frome (the monthly Sunday Frome Independent market is worth a visit), Bruton, Warminster and Shaftesbury (with the famous Gold Hill).

Art galleries can be found at Messums Wiltshire and Hauser & Wirth, whilst excellent value outlet shopping is available at Clarks Village, Street.

Slightly further afield, don't miss out on visiting Stonehenge, Cheddar Gorge, Wells Cathedral, Wookey Hole, the lost village of Imber and Glastonbury Tor.
