Tides House is a beautiful, elegant holiday home that is nestled in a wonderfully quiet pocket of the popular resort of Aldeburgh. With four gorgeous bedrooms, a fabulous open plan living room, a wonderful snug, a fabulous kitchen and a lovely garden, it is ideal for families or groups of friends. It is deceptively spacious, detached and very smart indeed.
The house is within easy walking distance of Aldeburgh’s beach and bustling high street. Aldeburgh is a delight, brimming with charming pastel painted cottages and fine Georgian buildings lining the promenade, art galleries, colourful boats and fresh-fish shacks stretching along the beach and numerous quaint coffee shops. Famous for its connection with the composer Benjamin Britten, Aldeburgh boasts a stunning ‘Scallop’ sculpture on the beach. The town is home to a variety of Music and Literature Festivals including the famous Aldeburgh Festival of Music. Aldeburgh is surrounded by the unspoilt nature of the Suffolk coast and is only two miles from Thorpeness.
On arrival at Tides House, you will immediately know that you are in for a treat. You will relish in its beauty and charm, appreciate the quality of the furnishings and notice the impressive efforts of the owners to provide little extras that will make your holiday dreams come true. The main living space is flooded with Suffolk sunlight that streams through its many doors and windows. A sumptuous reupholstered four-seater velvet sofa and comfy armchair sit in front of the log burning stove, smart mantelpiece and the Smart television. It is a wonderful spot for snuggling up with Netflix and the crackling atmosphere of the fire. The Tom Raffield butterfly light fitting is a gorgeous feature. At the far end of the room, a modern dining table and chairs offers dining with a garden view. A Bluetooth speaker is provided so that you can listen to your favourite soundtracks. Tucked away is a super stylish snug with a corner sofa, a large Smart television and a vast DVD collection. If that isn’t enough, there are over twenty board games for rainy days and family fun including ‘Aldeburgh Monopoly’. For avid readers, there are roughly eighty books so it really doesn’t matter if you forget your holiday book. The kitchen leads off the living room and is brilliantly well-equipped. Like the rest of the house, it is very smart and tidy and enjoys direct access to the garden. There is a Nespress coffee machine for your early morning cup of coffee. A separate utility room offers laundry appliances and handy accessories for your furry friend if you bring it. This room can be accessed from the driveway so it is perfect for coat and boot storage, pushchairs, crabbing nets, bucket and spades and for cleaning up your pooch. There is also a downstairs shower room. With clean lines and a cool vibe throughout Tides House, you will embrace the calm and relax very quickly.
Delightful, personal touches continue upstairs where all four bedrooms are beautifully appointed. The master bedroom offers a lavish kingsize bed, a Smart television for long lazy lie-ins, built in cupboards and an ensuite shower room. In addition to the master, there is a beautiful double room with a double bed, a delightful twin and a pretty single room. The family bathroom offers a bath with a hand-held shower where you can soak away what’s left of any stress. The bedrooms and bathrooms enjoy blue and white seaside themes to remind you that you are on your seaside break.
Tides House also boasts a beautiful, fully enclosed, walled garden with a lush lawn, a patio, outdoor furniture, a gas barbecue for summer feasts, a lockable shed for bikes and a fabulous Scots Thrapston summer house with seating to fully enjoy your summer days. A footpath just outside the house leads to the meadow. From here one path takes you to the High Street and the other to the beach which is about ten minutes away.
The charming village of Aldeburgh enjoys wonderful architecture, much charm, a welcoming ambience and a lovely beach. Famous for its connection with the composer Benjamin Britten, the stunning beach ‘Scallop’ sculpture is four metres high and is inscribed with the words ‘I hear those voices that will not be drowned’ from Britten’s famous opera Grimes. The annual Aldeburgh Festival takes place in June and was originally founded by Benjamin Brittan. He was actually born in nearby Lowestoft but spend the last thirty or so years of his live living in Aldeburgh. You can visit The Red House where he stayed for a glimpse of his life. Visitors can buy the freshest of catches at the fisherman’s huts on the beach. They are yummy and perfect for your alfresco supper. You can also head along to the estuary to admire the lovely sailboats and yachts.
Two miles north, Thorpeness is a magical, mystical village where you will find The Meare, an artificially created, Peter Pan themed boating lake. The landings and tiny islands have Peter Pan names such as ‘The Pirate’s Lair’ and ‘Wendy’s Island’. Visitors can hire rowing boats and enjoy family rowing on the water. Thorpeness Golf Club is regarded as one of Suffolk’s finest with 18 holes and par 70, just a stone’s throw from the beach.
Further up the coast, you can visit the incredibly popular resort of Southwold which is almost an island. It is bordered by the North Sea to the East, by the River Blyth and Southwold Harbour to the South West and by Buss Creek to the North. Southwold is home to the famous Adnams Brewery, a previous winner of The Good Pub Guide’s Brewery of the Year. Southwold Pier is brimming with thriving shops, eateries and amusements. The walk from Southwold to Walberswick is wonderful.
Further afield, you can visit the interesting market towns of Bungay, Beccles and Bury St Edmunds, each with a fascinating history and good range of shops and restaurants. Horse lovers may enjoy a day at the races at Newmarket.
