Boasting all the period charm of a 19th century cottage, Teacher’s House in Alderton near Woodbridge in Suffolk offers impressive accommodation which has been tastefully restored to retain its character, whilst also delivering all the home comforts you’d expect from an outstanding holiday home. The sitting room is bright and airy and has a feature ornate fireplace creating a real focal point to the room, so whether you want to watch the sun go down from the comfo1rt of the sofa, or just chill out watching a DVD, you’ve come to the right place. The meticulously planned kitchen/diner is perfect for entertaining with a fully fitted kitchen at one end and a stylish dining area at the other, so when the designated chef has finished preparing food, guests can pull up a chair at the rustic dining table and look forward to long, sociable meals together. If the weather allows, then there is an elegant patio area all set up ready for eating and drinking alfresco. There is even a barbecue here, so as soon as the sun comes out it’s a great opportunity for a memorable family barbecue. All that fresh air will have tired everyone out, so when it’s time for bed make your way to either the king-size or double; both are stylish presented and offer sumptuous beds to sink into; just what you need after a hard day of holidaying. While you are at Teacher’s House, you must treat yourself to a long, hot soak in the roll-top bath, or if showers are more your thing, then jump in and freshen up, before you’re ready to face the day. Teacher’s House is set within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so there is no shortage of fantastic walks and hikes to be had, all rewarded with some breath-taking views along the way. Within a decent walk are the excellent beaches of Bawdsey and Shingle Street which offer a tranquil and restful place to spend time. If you want to get close to nature, then the RSPB centre at Boyton and Hollesley marshes is a must, as is the Orford Ness National Nature Reserve. Other attractions include Snape Maltings, Sutton Hoo, Bawdsey Quay and Framlingham Castle with towns to visit such as Aldeburgh, Southwold, Thorpeness and Orford. Top marks from the teacher for the outstanding Teacher’s House, where guests are guaranteed a holiday to remember for a lifetime.
The pretty village of Alderton lies on the border of the Cotswolds and the Vale of Evesham and was mentioned in the Doomsday book. It has a 16th century thatched village pub offering home cooked meals and real ales, and a village store and Post Office stocking locally sourced produce. Close by is the ancient Saxon town of Winchcombe with inns, restaurants, tea rooms and individual shops, many full of character. Once the home of Queen Katherine Parr, Sudeley Castle lies in the beautiful Cotswold Hills on the edge of Winchcombe and boasts award-winning gardens and medieval ruins, and it plays host to numerous events throughout the year. The quintessential English village of Broadway is just a short drive away and offers individual shops and boutiques, art galleries, restaurants and hotels, including the world-renowned Lygon Arms, popular for centuries and now offering spa facilities. Alderton is centrally situated for exploring tourist attractions such as the spa town of Cheltenham, famous for the Gold Cup horse racing and Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare. Also within short drives are Warwick Castle and the Cotswold market towns of Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh and Bourton-on-the-Water. The surrounding area offers agricultural shows, arts festivals, village fetes as well as lovely walks, cycle trails and National Trust properties. A great base for a memorable holiday at any time of year.
