About this property

Situated on the bank of the river Deben and boasting three quarters of an acre of gorgeous, landscaped gardens, Akenfield Cottage is without a doubt one of the most relaxing holiday situations in Suffolk.

This charming holiday home for two sits within beautiful grounds in the Suffolk countryside. The cottage’s gardens back onto the River Deben, and you can use the on-site rowing boat to explore the picturesque surroundings. It’s also a great base for keen walkers, with a fantastic range of routes directly from the property. Nearby days out include the famous concert hall at Snape Maltings (10 miles) and the 12th-century castle at Framlingham (4.5 miles).

The single-storey rural hideaway has a bright, open-plan layout with contemporary decor and furniture. After a long walk, unwind in the attractive lounge/kitchen/diner, which boasts a vaulted ceiling and picture windows framing breathtaking countryside views. Set the mood by lighting the cosy wood burner, and enjoy romantic dinners for two at the dining table or snuggle up on the sofa for a movie night in front of the TV/DVD. When day turns to night, retire to the relaxing king-size bedroom. A shower room completes the accommodation. Outside, a vast garden of mature trees, flowers, and seating areas envelops the property. Fire up the BBQ and dine alfresco by the cottage, or head down to the decked area by the river for a spot of wildlife watching.

The historic market town of Woodbridge is 8 miles from the cottage. Here, you’ll find a great range of independent shops and eateries, along with regular farmers’ markets and antique fairs. The Anglo-Saxon burial site of Sutton Hoo is just outside the town and is a must for any history enthusiasts. The pretty seaside town of Aldeburgh is 15 miles away and has a fabulous shingle beach and long promenade to explore, as well as multiple boutiques, galleries, and studios for picking up little souvenirs from your trip.

Lovely cottage & lovely hosts. Had a fantastic time watching the kingfisher nest on the river. Really comfortable & lots of nice places to visit within easy driving distance.

An immaculate home. Very comfortable with breathtaking scenery with wild and garden flowers. The trip down to the Mill was an adventure and the many kingfishers were a delight to put it mildly. Thank you so much.

Couldn't fault it. A beautifully situated, extremely warm, cosy and comfortable home from home, with wonderfully landscaped gardens down to the river. Must be wonderful in the summer - the winter was pretty enough. Excellent views and skies, birds and their sweet song all around us.
