This historic Grade II listed cottage lies alongside the River Wye in the hamlet of Hole in the Wall only a few miles from Ross on Wye. The cottage, set in its own grounds, boasts a quiet and picturesque location with striking attractions. Formerly a public house, it has at its heart a 15th century ‘cruck frame’ cottage which benefits from many original features including stone flags, wall and ceiling timbers, large bread oven, and a victorian cast iron cooking range. This cottage has recently been sympathetically and carefully styled throughout to provide a comfortable retreat. For this reason, we request there is no smoking or stag/hen parties within the house. The interior comprises a spacious, well equipped farmhouse kitchen with an adjacent dining room. The wonderful snug and its inglenook fireplace ensures a little haven to unwind with a good book. The welcoming lounge with comfortable sofas provides a good family space made cosy by the wood burning stove, particularly on winter evenings. Choose from three bedrooms for a peaceful night's sleep, you will be spoilt for choice between two double bedrooms benefitting from a Jack and Jill bathroom, and a four poster room. All bedrooms either overlook the river, fields or the garden. Outside, discover the large garden bordered by trees and a ‘holy well’, to compliment the nature of the cottage. With outdoor furniture and a barbecue, you can make yourselves right at home embracing the location in its entirety.
The small hamlet of Hole in the Wall lies in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside on the banks of the River Wye and is just 3 miles from the pretty riverside town of Ross-on-Wye. There are many local walks and cycle routes and the Herefordshire Trail and Wye Valley Walk are both close by. Nearby overlooking a large loop in the beautiful River Wye is the historic market town of Ross-on-Wye. This picturesque town has timbered Tudor houses clustered around the striking 17th century Market Hall, and there are excellent shops, tea shops, pubs and restaurants to suit every taste. The magnificent Royal Forest of Dean boasts many trails which can be enjoyed on foot, bicycle or horseback or why not try your hand at fishing, golf, canoeing or caving all of which can be enjoyed in the area. Try the local wine at the Three Choirs Vineyard or visit the waterfront Cathedral City of Gloucester with its Victorian docklands and Norman Cathedral or see the Mappa Mundi in the Norman Cathedral at Hereford. The stunning Brecon Beacon National Park, the Cotswold hills around Cheltenham, the beautiful Malvern Hills, Symonds Yat and the “book town” of Hay on Wye also make a great day out from this wonderful cottage which can be enjoyed any time of the year.
