Fownhope 1.5 miles. Resting in Mordiford, near the pretty village of Fownhope in Herefordshire, lies this single-storey cottage, Lady Grove. Enjoy a holiday based at this unique property in a conservation area and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in the centre of Herefordshire. Lady Grove is the ideal base for a nature-filled and adventurous break to Hereford, sleeping up to four guests. Driving through the forest track and up the hill, you'll soon spot the cottage, elevated within the nearby woods, with plenty of off-road parking in tow, offering a private abode for your break. Walking through the grand front door, pick up a book for a later read, kick off your boots and store your belongings, before heading into the living/dining room; here you'll find a welcoming setting, with a woodburning stove to relax in front of, and plenty of seating to either unwind or dine. Venturing into the country-style kitchen, cook up a feast and make use of the self-catering facilities, helping you settle in and feel at home. With such a stunning surrounding on your doorstep, opt for alfresco dining, set amongst flower beds and a vegetable garden, all found within the remote rear garden. As the night unwinds, retreat to the spacious bedrooms, all with direct views of the woodlands, setting a peaceful environment ready for dusk; you'll have the choice of a double, and two singles, all with access to the main bathroom. Once you're ready to venture beyond Lady Grove, immediately in the Woolhope Dome there is hundreds of acres of woodland where you can cycle, walk and run. The cottage is on the symmetry of a hill above the two rivers Wye and Lugg where you can hire canoes on the Wye for day or half day trips with transport provided to bring you back. You’ll find a wealth of activities near the River Wye, from canoeing with Paddle Beyond to cycling and hiking, perfect for those who love the outdoors. The property is located in the small village of Mordiford, where you will find country pub The Moon Inn, and is one and a half miles from Fownhope village. Haugh Wood Butterfly Trail, Wyevale Wood Nature Reserve, The Weir Garden and the stunning Malvern Hills AONB are all idyllic hotspots to visit if you are an avid walker. Be sure to hike up the Black Mountains, a gateway into Wales, where you can expect exceptional views and scenery. For a taste of history, tour Hereford Cider Museum, discover the well-preserved Black and White House Museum, or visit Goodrich Castle and its mediaeval grounds, dating back to the 13th century. For an immersive experience, work your way around the aMazing Hedge Puzzle, explore the underground trails of Clearwell Caves, tour the fascinating Mappa Mundi, or take in the picturesque landscape of Symonds Yat Rock. Perfect for a family break to Herefordshire, choose Lady Grove as your abode.
The lovely village of Fownhope is nestled on the banks of the River Wye, surrounded by stunning Herefordshire countryside, and is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Wye Valley Trek, a 136-mile walk that follows the boundary between England and Wales, as well as the Herefordshire Trail and the Three Choirs Way, are all close to this vibrant village. Fownhope hosts a popular weekly farmers market, while Capler Hill, an Iron Age Hill Fort, and Marcle Ridge, on the outskirts of the hamlet, offer unobstructed views. Nearby, the riverside towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, with their timbered Tudor structures, magnificent 17th century market halls, fine shops, pubs, and restaurants, are worth a visit, as are Hereford and its wonderful 11th century cathedral and famous Mappa Mundi globe map. Take a stroll along the River Wye's banks, a hot-air balloon ride, or a river cruise to take in the stunning scenery! A day trip to picturesque Hay-on-Wye, the Black Mountains, and pristine Brecon Beacons National Park, as well as the magnificent Royal Forest of Dean, which offers activities to suit all tastes, is also available.
